Spring-Fast® Wire Protection System from Device Technologies, Inc.Wins Daytona 500, Equipping Winner Kenseth!

Daytona, Florida, Feb 16, 2009- Device Technologies Spring-Fast grommet edging was part of the winning car at Daytona 500! The innovative Spring-Fast continuous wire protection grommet edging replaces various thermoplastic (nylon) grommets that crack and fall off, leaving wires exposed to sharp-edged metal surfaces, as well as those made in Polyolefin that require significant assembly time, requiring the use of adhesives and auxiliary tools.

The high performance Spring-Fast grommet edging is capable of high levels of shock and vibration, and other ambient conditions, supporting its long term reliability within critical equipment such as race cars, which cannot have any electrical problems associate with wire breakdown. Spring-Fast wire protection grommet edging is designed to protect critical wires and cable from wire chaffing, and simply snaps on and is easier to install than alternative products, reducing production time and reducing safety elements associated with adhesives. Spring-Fast installs with a simple pressure fastening concept, eliminating the need for adhesives - which minimizes the exposure of production line workers and to hazardous materials and VOCs (volatile organic compounds).

"Spring-Fast is perfectly tailored for high-performance race cars such as stock, Indy, and formula cars, whose wires and cabling are subjected to significant aerodynamic loads throughout its operational life," said Device Technologies Engineering Manager Steven O'Loughlin. "We are in full production of our BAP and SL Spring-Fast wire protection grommet edging for various race teams.

The Spring-Fast grommets are made from spring-loaded stainless steel, which is encapsulated in a protective polymer coating. Spring-Fast quickly snaps into place, using only the pressure applied by the installer's fingers. The product is delivered in reels, with the material cut to length for the specific protective applications in the fire wall areas "The dynamic performance requirements of NASCAR and the capabilities of Spring-Fast make this a perfect match," added O'Loughlin.

Spring-Fast originally was developed for the electronics industry, and is fitted on storage and server computers, network switching and router systems, aircraft, medical scanning, X-ray and dialysis systems, automatic teller machines, and other critical equipment.

It is increasingly becoming a standard for the automotive and aerospace and defense industries because of the grommet edge's excellent performance, ease of installation and production cost effectiveness compared to old-style nylon grommets. Spring-Fast is approved for use by the U.S. Department of Defense, as well as the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration civil aviation authority.
