Wieland's fasis Series Spring Clamp Blocks Recieve Class I, Zone 1 Approval

BURGAW, N.C. (April 2, 2002) - Wieland Electric Inc, a leader in control components for hazardous locations, announced the approval of its fasis spring clamp terminal block series for use in Class I, Zone 1 hazardous locations.

"Typically, hazardous locations such as petrochemical plants must use elaborate wiring methods, expensive rated field devices or large explosion-proof enclosures to meet safety standards,"
said Wieland Product Manager, Marc Immordino. "But individually approved Class I, Zone 1 interconnect devices provide a more cost effective method of meeting these regulations."

The entire fasis spring clamp series meets UL 2279 hazardous location requirements with the exception of disconnect and fuse terminals which by nature compromise no spark requirements of
Class I, Zone 1 approval. The approved series includes feed-through, ground, double-tier and miniature blocks for a variety of control applications.

The Zone 1 approval also covers the use of these terminals in Zone 2 applications. Zone 1 locations are classified as areas with ignitable concentrations during normal operating conditions or that exist frequently from repair and maintenance of the equipment. It also refers to areas that are adjacent to Class 1, Zone 0 locations where ignitable concentrations of gases or vapors migrate.

Zone 2 locations are classified as areas where vapors or gases are not likely to occur during normal operation, but could occur during a leak for a short period of time.
