Spread Spectrum Oscillators reduce EMI without design changes.

Press Release Summary:

Drop-in replacements for conventional oscillators, EQ-HM24s are available in 14 pin DIP packages with gull-wing SMD leads and can cope with -40 to +85°C operating temperatures. Available in 8.0 to 165 MHz versions, they slowly sweep around or below center frequency, allowing electronic devices to comply with appropriate EMI standards. Using SST clock oscillators has no impact on system performance since modulation rate is slow relative to clock output frequency.

Spread Spectrum Oscillators Reduce EMI without Layout Changes!

Fairport, New York. Euroquartz Ltd announce the availability of EQ-M Spread Spectrum Technology Oscillators - a low-cost solution to expensive EMI headaches, requiring no layout changes! By slowly varying the system oscillator's center frequency, EQ-HM oscillators allow electronic devices to more easily comply with appropriate EMI standards without compromising system performance.

EQ-HM oscillators are available in 8.0MHz - 165.MHz versions which sweep their center frequency around or below the center frequency. For instance, a 10MHz EQ-HM24-3-BT-C1.00 is a 10MHz oscillator which slowly varies its center frequency down to 9.90MHz and up to 10.10MHz. Designed as drop-in replacements for conventional oscillators, EQ-HM24s are available in 14-pin DIP-package size package with gull-wing SMD leads and can cope with -40degC to 85degC operating temperatures.

Conventional EMI-reduction techniques include the use of shielding, filtering, de-coupling, ground planes and ferrite beads. However, the current trend towards higher carrier frequencies, narrower bandwidths and lower operating voltages makes these traditional EMI reducing techniques less effective and increasingly expensive. System timing signals are usually synchronized to a reference clock oscillator. By varying the peak energy over a wide frequency bandwidth with low frequency modulation, the amplitude of the fundamental frequency and its associated harmonics can be reduced by several dB, even when the total amount of system energy remains the same. Using SST clock oscillators has no impact on system performance (e.g. CPU clock rate) since the modulation rate is slow relative to the clock output frequency. Thus SST technology is transparent to the system. Datasheets for EQ-HM Spread Spectrum Technology Oscillators can be found at www.euroquartz.co.uk.
