Splicing Workstation features portable, configurable design.

Press Release Summary:

Using Graphite Filament Fusion technology, Model PSX-3000 produces clean, low-loss splices in standard and large mode area double-clad fibers. True Core Imaging(TM) and Active Alignment technology provide precise core alignment and splice loss determination, while Windows-based laptop PC interface offers configuration and control, and database records all splicing data. Model PSX-3000 can be set up as simple splicer or as integrated system with cleave, clean, splice, and recoat capabilities.

Vytran Introduces Portable, Configurable Splicing Workstation

Company to Demonstrate "PSX-3000" at Laser World of Photonics Conference June 15-18 in Munich, Germany

Morganville, New Jersey, June 2, 2009 - Vytran, an innovative supplier of fiber fusion splicing, assembly and glass processing solutions, introduces the PSX-3000, a portable, configurable, optical fiber splicing workstation ideal for volume manufacturing and service applications in markets such as fiber laser, research and medical. Vytran will demonstrate the PSX-3000 and other precision optical fiber processing equipment at Laser World of Photonics 2009 booth 301, hall B1, from June 15-18 in Munich, Germany.

"The PSX-3000 marries Vytran's core fiber fusion technology with portability, enabling unprecedented consistency in fiber splicing at every level of production and service," said Jean-Michel Pelaprat, Vytran president and CEO. "For example, it could be used by a fiber component manufacturer in volume production, then by a fiber laser integrator for placing the components into systems, and finally by a service team for maintaining the systems at their installation site. And since PSX-3000 is configurable, customers can choose the features that best enhance their processes."

PSX-3000 uses Graphite Filament Fusion technology-a proprietary process that produces clean, low-loss splices in standard and large mode area (LMA) double-clad fibers. PSX-3000 also uses Vytran's True Core Imaging(TM) and Active Alignment technology for precise core alignment and splice loss determination. A fire polishing process enhances splice strength. A Windows-based laptop PC interface provides complete process configuration and control and a database records all splicing data.

PSX-3000 can be set up as a simple splicer or as an integrated system with any combination of cleave, clean, splice and recoat capabilities. The system's optional large diameter fiber cleaver is automated and programmable and produces cleaves with mirror-quality end-face finishes. PSX-3000 can also be equipped with an ultrasonic cleaner for non-contact cleaning of the stripped fiber-especially critical for high-strength and high-power applications where the fibers must be perfectly clean prior to splicing. The PSX-3000's optional recoater restores a protective, UV-cured, polymer coating over a fusion splice, while still retaining the fiber's original strength and flexibility.

Vytran's complete product lineup includes fully integrated workstation and individual process tools for fiber stripping, cleaning, cleaving, splicing and recoating. The company will run demonstrations of several pieces of equipment at Laser World of Photonics 2009. This will include a PSX-3000 optical fiber splicing workstation, PTR-200 fiber recoaters and proof testers for manual and high-volume automated optical fiber processing, and a GPX-3400 glass processing platform for creating splices, tapers, couplers and combiners on optical fibers up to 1.5-mm diameter.

For added convenience, attendees can schedule demo appointments in advance by contacting Dan Bowden at dbowden@vytran.com.
