Thomas & Betts' Color-Keyed® Cast-Copper Reducing Splices Offer Constant Outer Diameter That Enables One Tool to Crimp Both Ends

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - March 9, 2006 - Thomas & Betts has facilitated splicing different-sized conductors with the introduction Color-Keyed ® Cast-Copper Reducing Splices, which offer a constant outer diameter that enables crimping of both ends with the same tool or die. Unlike screw-machined, externally contoured splices, Cast-Copper Reducing Splices do not require changing the tool or die to crimp each end, which reduces installation time. The Cast-Copper Reducing Splices' constant outer diameter also makes the splices faster and easier to insulate with clear heat-shrink wrap or watertight clamshell covers.

"Color-Keyed Cast-Copper Reducing Splices are less time-consuming to install and insulate, making them substantially more economical than the conventional contoured splices," said Jerry Woodward, senior product manager for Thomas & Betts' Industrial Products Group. "Cast-Copper Reducing Splices can be used for all 600V to 35KV electrical splicing of different-sized conductors. Applications include telecommunications for both inside office and outside plant, as well as industrial MRO and commercial contracting."

Available in a comprehensive range of sizes, Color-Keyed® Cast-Copper Reducing Splices are constructed of tin-plated, sand-cast copper, which provides superior tensile strength, high conductivity and excellent corrosion resistance. Other benefits include a chamfered barrel for easier wire insertion and a compact, low-profile design that results in the splices occupying less space in a cable tray or wire run. In addition to Cast-Copper Reducing Splices, the Color-Keyed brand also includes a line of crimping tools for simple installation.

Color-Keyed Cast-Copper Reducing Splices are UL® Listed and CSA Certified.
