Spirax Sarco Wins 2012 Plant Engineering Product of the Year Award in Two Categories
The VLM10 Inline Vortex Mass Flowmeter and Steam DesignPro 6.1 software have been selected as winners in the 2012 Plant Engineering Product of the Year Contest. These products were selected from among this year's entries as one of the most outstanding new products of 2012. Now in its 25th year, Product of the Year is a premium honor for new products innovations that make manufacturing plants run smarter, safer and more efficiently.
The VLM10 Inline Vortex Mass Flowmeter for mass, volumetric, and energy flow measurement on steam, liquid and gas applications won Silver in the Fluid Handling category. This instrument combines an inline vortex meter, a built in flow computer and an integral temperature sensor giving users an elegant all in one solution for their metering needs.
The VLM10 is precise and reliable with a steam or gas mass flow accuracy of ±1.5% of range over a wide 20:1 flow range. The fully welded, no gasket design, insures safe measurement of steam and allows the sensors and RTD to be removed without having to shut down the line first. The built in web server allows customers to monitor flow and monitor meter health through the internet. Digital communications delivers information on demand using Modbus RTU, BACnet MS/TP and Modbus TCP/IP technology with standard analog and pulse outputs. The VLM10 is available in a wide range of connections and pressure ranges.
Spirax Sarco's Steam DesignPro 6.0 was updated this year to 6.1and won gold in the HVAC category. The software was created as a visual design tool through an easy, drag-and-drop method for designing and modeling HVAC steam systems.
The intuitive Windows® – based software allows for easy modeling of steam generation, steam distribution, steam utilization and condensate-handling systems. The program automatically performs many of the engineering calculations and design tasks that HVAC professionals currently accomplish manually, including: head loss and static pressure calculations, pipe and duct sizing, data recalculation, component insertion, full psychometric calculations and equipment type changes on-the-fly.
Plus, Steam DesignPro supports compiling of equipment schedules based on the Spirax Sarco catalog. Minimal training is required to use this software and one can reuse designs from job to job.
This is the 25th year Plant Engineering has offered the Product of the Year contest for the best new products that improve productivity and safety in manufacturing operations. Each subscriber receives an electronic ballot via email with all of the year’s new product finalists. The voter chooses which new product he/she thinks will most help their operation and the ballot is submitted for tabulation. Plant Engineering will announce the winner of the Gold, Silver, and Bronze award in the April 2013 edition of the magazine available in both print and online.
