New Fastener: PEM® Spinning Clinch Bolts

Introduce Low-Cost Captive Hardware Solution

New PEM® spinning clinch bolts for thin metal panels install securely using controlled clinching action to captivate the screw while allowing it to spin freely in the sheet. This enables quicker attachment of mating hardware by eliminating a need for loose fasteners such as screws and retaining clips or washers. The one-piece steel fastener further offers an extremely low-cost alternative to expensive multi-component hardware assemblies.

The family of PEM spinning clinch bolts includes patented Type SCB(TM) fasteners featuring an unthreaded neck for axial float and Type SCBJ(TM) hardware with a jacking feature. Both can permanently captivate into aluminum or steel sheets as thin as .040"/0.8mm (and greater) and can satisfy close centerline-to-edge applications.

The fasteners install by simply pressing the bolt into a properly sized hole using a PEMSERTER® or other standard press. The applied squeezing force to the top of the screw head and the underside of the sheet material forces the shoulder of the screw into the sheet, displaces sheet material, and causes it to fill the void under the head and shoulder of the screw. This permanently captivates the fastener in the panel.

PEM spinning clinch bolts are available in various lengths and thread sizes from 4-40 through 6-32 and M3 through M4.
