Spinning Clinch Bolts enable captivated screw to spin freely.

Press Release Summary:

Available in thread sizes from No. 4–40 through No. 6–32 and M3–M4, PEM® spinning clinch bolts install into aluminum or steel sheets as thin as .040 in. One-piece captive screw solutions provide controlled clinching action during installation that permanently captivates screw while letting it spin freely. Products include Type SCB™ fasteners with unthreaded neck for axial float, Type SCBJ™ hardware integrating jacking feature, and Type SCBR™ versions with self-retracting feature.

Original Press Release:

PEM® Spinning Clinch Bolts Enable Captivated Screw to Spin Freely for Quick Attachment

COST-EFFECTIVE ALTERNATIVES TO MULTI-COMPONENT FASTENERS:

PEM® spinning clinch bolts for use in thin metal sheets introduce one-piece captive screw solutions whose controlled clinching action during installation permanently captivates the screw while allowing it to spin freely in the sheet.  This allows for quick attachment of mating hardware and reduced need for loose fasteners (such as screws and retaining clips or washers). These fasteners can serve as cost-effective alternatives to multi-component fastener assemblies.

The product line includes Type SCB™ fasteners with an unthreaded neck for axial float, Type SCBJ™ hardware integrating a jacking feature, and Type SCBR™ versions with a self-retracting feature enabling the captive screw to remain retracted when engaged.  All permanently install into aluminum or steel sheets as thin as .040” / 1.02mm (and greater) and can be specified for close centerline-to-edge applications.

Installation is performed quickly and easily by pressing the fastener into a properly sized mounting hole and then applying squeezing force on the top of the screw head and the underside of the sheet material.  The squeezing action forces the displacer of the screw into the sheet, causing it to reduce the mounting-hole diameter and ultimately captivate the screw.

PEM spinning clinch bolts are available in various lengths and thread sizes from #4-40 through #6-32 and M3 through M4.
