Spindles utilize motorized bearing technology.

Press Release Summary:

Aerostatic Colibri ZAL Series Spindles feature axial stiffness of 7 N/µm, radial stiffness of 5 N/µm, speed of 80,000 rpm, and low run out of 0.2-0.5 µm. They can be used in vertical or horizontal positions. Compact 1050 W spindles produce up to 0.125 Nm of torque. They include Coals contactor for precise position of tool above work surface, and in-process water injection through spindle. Any spindle nose required is available.

Original Press Release:

Spindle Assures Highest Quality Surface Finish

Lavon, Israel - High stiffness + High RPM's + Low run out = High quality surface finishes. High speed aerostatic (air bearing) Colibri spindles are ideal for cutting and polishing optical components as well as dicing, micromachining, and fine milling. The Colibri ZAL Series spindles feature an Axial stiffness of 7 N/µm, a Radial stiffness of 5 N/µm, a speed of 80,000 RPM's, and very low run out (0.2 - 0.5 µm). These compact, advanced technology, "Motorized Bearing Technology"(MBT) spindles can be used in a vertical or horizontal positions, and are raising the standards of surface finishing.

The compact (80 mm dia. x 195 mm long), 1050 Watt Colibri ZAL Series spindles produce up to 0.125 Nm of torque. Incorporating Colibri's "Motorized Bearing Technology"(MBT), in which the armature of the motor functions also as a radial bearing, the ZAL Series spindles are lighter and shorter than conventional spindles. Because the armature is a large radial bearing, performance in such critical areas such as stiffness and run out are superior to conventional longer, heavier spindles.

The spindles are available with any spindle nose required (e.g. tapered or with a collet), an encoder, a Coals contactor for precise position of the tool above the work surface, and in-process water injection through the spindle.

Colibri Spindles, Ltd. specializes in the design and manufacturing of aerostatic and hydro-static spindles featuring the patent pending, "Motorized Bearing Technology"(MBT). Their spindles are used in Micromachining and Fine Milling, Fine Drilling, Soft and Hard-Material Dicing, Automatic Semiconductor Wafer Testing, and Spinning of Optics or Drums for the etching of printing plates using a laser. Colibri Spindles is part of the ISCAR IMC Group. ISCAR being one of the world's largest manufacturers of cutting tools. Headquartered in Israel, member companies of the ISCAR IMC Group are located worldwide and are involved in various aspects of the cutting tool industry. A primary purpose of the Group is to provide users in metal working industries with advanced technology products on a global scale. Colibri and IBAG - Switzerland AG and IBAG - North America has formed Strategic Partnerships. IBAG will distribute and integrate Colibri spindles and represent Colibri at tradeshows.
