Spin-off at Conductix-Wampfler: IPT Technology GmbH Founded
New company for the area of e-mobility / IPT® applications for industry will still be developed and sold by Conductix-Wampfler.
Weil am Rhein – IPT Technology GmbH was founded as a spin-off of Conductix-Wampfler GmbH. The new company just moved into new offices in Efringen-Kirchen with 22 employees. "Increasing specialization in the e-mobility area led us to this step," explains Phillippe Lang, CEO of the Conductix-Wampfler Group and Managing Director of Conductix-Wampfler GmbH in Weil am Rhein. While Conductix-Wampfler will continue to offer intelligent solutions in "Inductive Power Transfer" (IPT®) for industry, IPT Technology GmbH will primarily focus on the use of IPT® in electric vehicles in the public market, and implementing funded projects in that segment.
Conductix-Wampfler, the world's leading manufacturer of systems for energy and data transmission to mobile consumers, is considered a pioneer in the technology of contact-free energy transmission. The company in Weil am Rhein had already introduced IPT® to the market in the 90's. While innovative contact-free energy transmission promptly saw a wide use in industry, e.g. in automobile production, inductive battery charging with public transport initially found only few customers. "At the end of the 90's, we were a little ahead of the times with this technology," says Lang. Thanks to the decision on the part of the German government to move to renewable energy, legal requirements to reduce CO2 emissions, and the explosive growth of electrical mobility, however, IPT® has become a serious alternative in the automobile industry and public transport. In the future, IPT Technology GmbH will serve this market directly.
Use in public transport gains momentum
A pilot project in public transport for Conductix-Wampfler was the use of IPT® for battery charging in small buses in Genoa and Turin, established in 2002 and still in use today. Since 2012, this 2nd-generation modular, wireless charging system is also in use for a 12-meter bus in s'Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands. In 2013, eight more buses equipped with IPT® charging technology were put into operation in Milton Keynes, UK.
