Spill Response Solidifier Gains Gov't Pre-Approval in South-East

Timing is critical when containing and cleaning up an oil spill. A cost-effective alternative to absorbents and mechanical recovery, CI Agent powder is a unique solidifier from Immediate Response Spill Technologies (IRST). It's now preauthorized for use in Southeastern states.

Pre-approved for the Regional Response Team IV area of responsibility, CI Agent can be safely employed in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Tennessee and the Carolinas. Once a spill is contained by a boom, there's no need to wait for authorities to take action. The preauthorization allows up to 1,000 lbs. of CI Agent to be immediately used on spills of less than 500 gallons.

"This pre-approval of solidifiers is the first in what we predict will be a series of victories that allows instant and economical response to spills," said IRST president Dan Parker. "There are 13 Regional Response Teams throughout the U.S. and the Caribbean who work with state and local officials on contingency plans for emergencies such as oil or fuel spills. We're in various stages of obtaining pre-approval in the other regions. This will make CI Agent accessible to nearly everyone."

Non-toxic, non-hazardous, non-corrosive and non-carcinogenic, CI Agent is an environmentally-friendly, petroleum-based blend of polymers.

It has been strictly tested and proven to have no effect on even the most sensitive marine organisms, meeting all criteria for being listed on the EPA National Contingency List Product Schedule.

Inexpensive and fast-acting, CI Agent can be applied to immobilize oil and related petrochemical emergency spills in water and on land. Upon contact, the dry granular power encapsulates petroleum-based liquid spills and transforms them into a cohesive rubber-like mass. Unlike traditional absorbents that soak up oil through expansion, CI Agent solidifies it with minimum volumetric increase for easy removal. Without the dripping effect that occurs from absorbent materials, CI Agent minimizes any residue or contamination.

To prevent loss, CI Agent is applied in dissolvable packaging or in free powder with the wind to the dispenser's back. Simple to use, a person becomes qualified to administer the solidifier after about 3 minutes of training.

Solidified CI Agent can be burned with an extremely small ash residue, used as a fuel or sold to companies that will employ it as a filler to add strength and flexibility to their products. In most cases, CI Agent waste can be safely thrown away with the trash.
