Ocean Optics CHEMUSB2-series Spectrophotometers Pack Abundant Features Into Compact Systems

Dunedin, Fla., July 2004 - Ocean Optics CHEMUSB2-series Spectrophotometers are PC-based UV-VIS and VIS-NIR systems designed especially for chemical absorbance measurements. The compact CHEMUSB2 Systems include a spectrometer, a light source and a cuvette holder in a package with a footprint comparable to a standard CD-ROM jewel case. Both CHEMUSB2-series Systems have a 2048-element liner CCD-array detector, providing full spectral analysis within 3 milliseconds at 1.0 nm optical resolution (FWHM).

Compared with traditional monochromators and colorimeters familiar to many chemistry labs, CHEMUSB2-series Spectrophotometers include increased data acquisition and processing capability, from measuring a single wavelength at a time to 2048 wavelengths simultaneously, and have no moving mechanical parts to misalign or break.

The CHEMUSB2-UV-VIS Spectrophotometer combines the Ocean Optics USB2000 Spectrometer with the high-tech USB-ISS-UV integrated deuterium tungsten halogen light source and 1-cm square cuvette holder. The CHEMUSB2-UV-VIS has a 2048-element CCD-array detector that covers the 200-850 nm range and provides optical resolution to 1.0 nm (FWHM). Available for $3,999, the CHEMUSB2-UV-VIS is unique in that a user can adjust the intensity of the system's tungsten halogen bulb to match the output of the deuterium bulb, to increase light for VIS measurements, or to decrease saturation. Additionally, the system's light source features an electronic shutter, controlled via software, for taking dark references. The CHEMUSB2-UV-VIS plugs into the USB port of any desktop or notebook PC, eliminating the need for separate analog-to-digital converters and interface cabling.

Designed for basic absorbance measurements, the CHEMUSB2-VIS-NIR Spectrophotometer combines the Ocean Optics USB2000 Spectrometer and the USB-ISS-VIS tungsten/LED light source and 1-cm cuvette holder. The CHEMUSB-VIS has a 2048-element CCD-array detector that covers the 390-950 nm range and provides optical resolution to 1.0 nm (FWHM). Available for $2,999, the modular, fiber optic system can easily be configured with optional components to capture emission spectra and to perform reflectance measurements. The PC-based system plugs into the USB port of any desktop or notebook PC, eliminating the need for separate analog-to-digital converters and interface cabling.

Both CHEMUSB2-series Spectrophotometers are configured with Ocean Optics OFLV Filtering, a variable longpass filter that eliminates second- and third-order effects across the systems' effective range. Additionally, each system includes operating software.
