AgPlus Mirrors Enable High-Reflectivity Across VIS-NIR Wavelengths

Ocean Optics thin-film dielectric coating produces 95% reflectivity from 400-1000 nm

Dunedin, Fla., June 2003 -- Ocean Optics has expanded its optics line with the new AgPlus High-reflectivity Mirror. Designed for use in spectrometers and optical systems, the mirror offers 95% reflectivity from visible wavelengths of 400 nm to near-infrared (NIR) wavelengths of 1000 nm. The mirror's environmentally stable coating simultaneously optimizes reflectivity over a wide range of angles of incidence.

Ocean Optics AgPlus High-reflectivity Mirrors are manufactured using a proprietary process that produces silver reflecting layers in dielectric thin films. The dielectric coatings protect the silver from oxidation and enhance reflectivity in the wavelength range of interest. Additionally, these coatings are environmentally stable and can be applied to standard optical substrates to produce mirrors and filters.

AgPlus mirrors were conceived to increase sensitivity in the new Ocean Optics USB2000-FLG Spectrofluorometer, a time-gated emission spectrometer for monitoring fluorophores. Indeed, system sensitivity increases 10% to 35% with use of the AgPlus mirror, compared to instruments with conventional aluminum-coated mirrors. Additionally, AgPlus Mirrors can be used in the Ocean Optics HR2000 Spectrometer bench for high-resolution measurements in low-light level experiments.

Pairs of AgPlus mirrors (Ocean Optics item SAG+UPG) are available for $250. The mirrors are also available in OEM quantities.
