Spectacular Signage by SouthWood Complements Personality of Afton Ridge Shopping Center

CHARLOTTE - When you drive by Afton Ridge Shopping Center in Concord, you can't help noticing the spectacular signage created by SouthWood Corporation (www.southwoodcorp.com) that includes large curved aluminum panels and retro-looking anchor columns.

When Childress Klein introduced Afton Ridge, a mixed-use development in rapidly expanding Cabarrus County, the development company knew they were looking to create a unique, inviting environment to attract a variety of businesses and residents. The flagship retail complex, Afton Ridge Shopping Center, opened nearly a year ago, anchored by SuperTarget, Best Buy, Dick's Sporting Goods, Marshall's and Steinmart, to the welcome arms of a progressive, growing community.

"SouthWood's team was instrumental in taking the entry signage from concept into production," says Steve Hoots with Childress Klein. "Their attention to detail and quality is evident in the final product, of which we are extremely proud."

Signage for a project like Afton Ridge had to be distinctive, so Childress Klein turned to ColeJenest & Stone to create a look that was highly functional, yet eye-catching ... and definitely not the same as other shopping centers.

"We wanted to create a strong modern identity for Afton Ridge that would set it apart from other developments. To create the right look, we combined modern materials with traditional forms to create unique signs that would be iconic without being overstated," says Jonathan Crowder with ColeJenest & Stone.

SouthWood was brought in to help with value engineering and technical issues and to bring the concepts designed by ColeJenest & Stone to reality. SouthWood enthusiastically embraced the challenge.

"The signage designed by ColeJenest & Stone gives Afton Ridge Shopping Center a modern, upscale image - with just a touch of the 'neighborhood shopping center' look and feel we enjoyed in our communities years ago," said Ernest Dwight, president of SouthWood. "We certainly appreciate the opportunity to work with ColeJenest & Stone as well as Childress Klein, one of the Southeast's premier development and property management companies."
