AGC Chemicals Americas Launches Specialty FKM for Improved Performance in Demanding Applications

EXTON, Pa.  – AGC Chemicals Americas Inc. has introduced AFLAS® 200P, a peroxide-curable specialty FKM that performs better than conventional FKM-type fluoroelastomers for applications that need to withstand aggressive oils containing anti-oxidants, solvents, ozone, acids and bases. When compounded with AFLAS 200P, components such as oil seals for automotive and heavy-duty diesel engines last longer and exhibit outstanding performance characteristics.

Classified as Type 4 FKMs by ASTM standards, AFLAS 200P fluoroelastomers offer improved performance at cold temperatures (Tg = -13 °C, TR-10 = -8 °C). The material is ideal for oil seals, shaft seals, O-rings, gaskets and a variety of other parts and fittings. AFLAS 200P can be solvated and applied as a coating.

“Our customers have been requesting a readily available specialty FKM that maintains good base resistance and offers improved performance at cold temperatures,” said Drew D’Agosta, AGC sales and marketing manager for AFLAS. “The product has proven performance results in rotary shaft seals and other engine components, but could also be targeted for use in chemical processing or industrial applications.”
