Spansion Announces Discretix CryptoFlash Will Be Integrated into Spansion's Security Processor for Handsets

TEL AVIV, Israel and SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 7 /-- Spansion Inc. (NASDAQ:SPSN), the world's largest pure-play provider of Flash memory solutions, today announced that Discretix's CryptoFlash(TM) security technology will be integrated into Spansion's security processor for its Flash-memory based security solutions for handsets. Discretix, based in Netanya, Israel, is a leader in embedded security solutions for Flash memory and portable devices.
Spansion's memory-based handset security solution is designed to protect valuable consumer data, content and code for all segments of the handset market. Spansion's secure Flash memory solution, which includes the Discretix CryptoFlash security technology, will be offered to customers as a security processor integrated into a Spansion Multi Chip Package (MCP), with sampling planned for the first half of 2007. Depending on the handset configuration, the Spansion MCP will also include some of the following: Spansion MirrorBit® NOR Flash memory, Spansion MirrorBit ORNAND(TM) solutions, pSRAM or DRAM.

The BIRD Foundation (Israeli-US Binational Industrial Research and Development), an organization that promotes strategic partnerships and joint research and development between Israeli and American companies plans to provide financial support for the technology cooperation between Spansion and Discretix.
