Original Press Release:

Low Capacitance TVS Diode Arrays from Littelfuse Reduce Signal Degradation and Distortion in High-Speed Applications

Protects fast signal pins like V-by-One, Embedded DisplayPort, HDMI 1.0 through 2.1, USB 2.0/3.0/3.1

Littelfuse, Inc., the global leader in circuit protection, today introduced a series of TVS Diode Arrays (SPA® Diodes) designed to provide eight channels of ultra-low capacitance common mode and differential mode protection for electronic equipment exposed to electrostatic discharges (ESD). SP8008 Series Low Capacitance TVS Diode Arrays offer the robustness necessary to protect against ESD events exceeding the IEC 61000-4-2 contact ESD level of ±8 kV without any performance degradation. Their extremely low loading capacitance (just 0.3pF typ.) also makes these components ideal for protecting high-speed signal pins such as V-by-One, Embedded DisplayPort, HDMI 1.0 through 2.1 and USB 2.0/3.0/3.1 without sacrificing signal integrity.

Typical applications for the SP8008 Series include high-speed interface protection for LCD/PDP TVs, LCD/LED monitors, notebook computers, ultrabooks, automotive displays, flat panel displays, digital signage, HD cameras/projectors, and USB and HDMI interfaces.

“In addition to their low loading capacitance and low dynamic resistance, SP8008 Series TVS Diode Arrays offer circuit designers the advantages of a compact form factor,” said Tim Micun, global product manager/TVS Diode Arrays at Littelfuse. “Their μDFN-14 packaging saves board space and supports straight-through routing of data lines.”

SP8008 Series TVS Diodes offer these key benefits:

  • Low loading capacitance (0.3pF typ.) reduces signal degradation and distortion for high-speed applications.
  • Low dynamic resistance (0.4Ω) provides low clamping performance to preserve signal integrity and minimize data loss while offering a more robust device against electrical threats.
  • Permits manufacturers to achieve ESD protection beyond the maximum level stated in the IEC standard and protects against a multitude of other threats to ensure product reliability.
