Southwest Products Selects Volvo Penta to Power Its New QP 100 Mobile Generators

(CHESAPEAKE, Va.) – Feb. 23, 2017 – When designing its new QP 100 generator, Southwest Products evaluated a range of different engine options before specifying Volvo Penta Tier 4 Final industrial diesel engines.

New for 2017, Southwest Products’ new QP-series 100kVA gensets are being powered by Volvo Penta five-liter TAD571VE engines. The QP 100 generators also feature an integrated battery charger, block heater and GPS telematics, as well as a self-contained fuel tank that is skid mounted to a removable trailer for flexibility.

Known for high fuel efficiency, low emissions and durability in a wide range of environments, Volvo Penta is becoming the supplier-of-choice among OEM genset manufacturers across North America. Volvo Penta’s proven SCR after-treatment technology meets Tier 4 Final emission standards while eliminating the downtime for periodic regeneration required by other emission reduction technologies.

“When it comes to engines, generator manufacturers want a sturdy quiet workhorse that provides trouble-free performance and low operating and maintenance costs, backed by a superior service organization. That’s exactly what Volvo Penta delivers,” said Darren Tasker, vice president of industrial sales at Volvo Penta of the Americas. “Our engineering and applications team partnered with Southwest Products’ product development group to ensure smooth integration of our engine into their new QP genset package, and our extensive service network ensures their customers get rapid, efficient service and warranty support.”

“We spent a lot of time gathering customer feedback before we started designing the QP 100 and discussed the addition of Volvo Penta-powered models to our lineup,” said Dan Vita, vice president of Southwest Products’ Power division. “Many of our customers are very excited about having a proven Tier 4 Final option. They’re designed for durability, which makes them an ideal fit for our Quiet Power mobile diesel generators. Volvo Penta is well-trusted by generator users and we look forward to working with them to develop additional QP models.”

The new QP-series generators were designed by the product development and engineering team at Southwest Products’ manufacturing headquarters in Surprise, Ariz. More than 2,000 hours went into the development of the new line, including extensive prototyping and testing. Production of the new generators will begin throughout 2017 at the company’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility.

Volvo Penta will be exhibiting alongside sister company Volvo Construction Equipment at the 2017 CONEXPO-CON/AGG in Las Vegas. Visit North Hall Booth 10036 for more information about Volvo Penta’s Tier 4 final solution for industrial applications.
