Source Measure Unit suits general-purpose electronic testing.

Press Release Summary:

Model N6784A general-purpose source measure unit is stable in capacitances up to 150 µF and offers 4-quadrant operation that enables it to act as bipolar power supply or bipolar electronic load. It features 4 current programming ranges to source current down to microamps, and 4 current measurement ranges to capture current levels of device under test (DUT) during different modes of operation. Power consumption measurements of DUT are made up to every 5 µsec with built-in 200 kHz digitizer.

Technologies Continues Expansion of Source Measure Unit Offering with New 4-Quadrant General Purpose Model

SANTA CLARA, Calif. - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today announced the N6784A 4-quadrant general-purpose source measure unit (SMU), the newest member of the N6700 Modular Power System family. The N6784A SMU offers advanced sourcing and measurement capabilities in four quadrants, required for many general-purpose electronic test applications.

"General-purpose applications span a large number of industries with vastly different test requirements," said Gary Whitman, vice president and general manager of Agilent's System Products Division. "That is why the N6784A SMU is a welcome addition to Agilent's family of SMUs. Its glitch-free, four-quadrant operation, and ability to remain stable even with capacitances up to 150 µF, makes it a versatile tool that is ideal for handling a variety of applications and test challenges."

The N6784A SMU's precise glitch-free operation ensures safe, stable use with any device under test (DUT) during output and measurement ranges changes. Its ability to remain stable with DUT capacitances of up to 150 µF is unique among SMUs. In addition, the SMU's four-quadrant operation enables it to act as a bipolar power supply or a bipolar electronic load, providing even greater versatility. Whether using the N6784A SMU in a test system or on a lab bench, engineers can be confident that they have a stable, reliable tool for all of their general-purpose needs.

The N6784A SMU features:

  • glitch-free sourcing and measurement for changing output and measurement ranges;

  • four-quadrant operation allowing the SMU to perform as a bipolar voltage or current source, or as a bipolar constant-voltage or constant-current electronic load;

  • four current programming ranges to precisely source current down to microamps;

  • four current measurement ranges to precisely capture the current levels of the DUT during different modes of operation;

  • excellent transient response for keeping the voltage or current stable during high-speed load changes;

  • fast modulation of DC output for creating waveforms up to 100 kHz to stimulate or load down the DUT; and

  • high-speed digitized measurements for capturing and viewing the power consumption of the DUT (up to every 5 microseconds with its built-in 200-kHz digitizer).

    The new N6784A SMU is a part of the N6700 Modular Power System family, which consists of the N6700 low-profile mainframes for ATE and the N6705 DC Power Analyzer mainframe for R&D. The product family has four mainframes and 25 DC power modules, providing a complete spectrum of solutions, from R&D through design validation and manufacturing.

    Each test application has different requirements, such as level of accuracy, speed of measurements, and operating ranges. Agilent offers a wide variety of SMUs in four categories: high precision, application specific, general purpose and basic to meet these requirements.
