Fieldbus Foundation Enhances Device Description Library

DD Library Version 3.1 makes it easier to build DDs for new FOUNDATION(TM) devices

AUSTIN, Texas, Oct. 10, 2006 -- The Fieldbus Foundation today announced the availability of Device Description (DD) Library Version 3.1. This standardized source code library has been enhanced to make it even faster and easier for developers to build Device Descriptions (DDs) for new
FOUNDATION(TM) instrumentation.

The DD Library contains source code for all standard FOUNDATION blocks and parameters. Suppliers only need to implement custom blocks and other manufacturer-specific additional parameters. Plus, the DD Library promotes a standardized view of field device information across manufacturers, enabling consistent configuration by users. The library is maintained to describe the most recent FOUNDATION specification.

According to the Fieldbus Foundation's manager, fieldbus products, Stephen Mitschke, DD Library Version 3.1 supports the growing base of fieldbus device developers. "The Fieldbus Foundation is committed to the growth of FOUNDATION technology around the world, and our goal is to provide comprehensive tools enabling developers to expedite their time-to-market,"
said Mitschke. "Our DD Library makes it easier to write Device Descriptions for a wide range of field instrument applications."

The DD Library Version 3.1 offers a variety of enhancements assisting the developer community. For example, all standard parameter labels and help strings defined in Version 3.0.1 of the standard dictionary have been translated to German. The library includes new manufacturer names and IDs, and some manufacturer names have been changed based on action requests submitted for Version 3.0.1. The foundation has also added unit codes and fixed bugs in response to action requests.
