Sound Level Meter measures noise as low as 6.5 dB A-weighted.

Press Release Summary:

Suited for outdoor noise monitoring as well as any other application where noise levels down to 6.5 dB A-weighted need to be measured, Model 831-LOWN uses PCB low noise microphone model 378A04. Resulting low-noise system utilizes prepolarized microphone and constant-current ICP® interface. This portable, low-power system does not require external power supply and can be used with EPS2116 outdoor protection system.

Original Press Release:

Larson Davis Launches New Technology to Measure Sound as Low as 6.5 dB A-weighted

Farmington Hills, MI - Larson Davis, a division of PCB Piezotronics, now offers the Model 831-LOWN sound level meter as a configuration that will measure noise as low as 6.5 dBA. The standard model 831 measures sound levels as low as 18 dB which is a common limit for precision sound level meters.

The new configuration uses the new PCB low noise microphone, model 378A04, that provides an industry's first low noise system that utilizes a prepolarized microphone and a constant-current, ICP®, interface.  The 378A04 easily integrates with the Model 831 Sound Level Meter to provide a highly portable, low power system that doesn't require a cumbersome and expensive external power supply.

This new system, model 831-LOWN, can be used with the EPS2116 outdoor protection system which makes it well suited for outdoor noise monitoring due to the simplicity of the system and low power usage.  The 831-LOWN is also well suited for any other application where noise levels as low as 6.5 dB A-weighted need to be measured.

Ken Cox, Larson Davis Product Development Manager said, "We are excited to be able to bring new capabilities to our industry in a way that provides great value to our customers. Take a look at the new model 831-LOWN and I think you'll be pleased by the functionality provided and the price at which it is available."
