Sonobond to Exhibit Three of its Ultrasonic Bonding Machines at the Idea10 Show in Miami

The SeamMaster(TM) High Profile Ultrasonic Bonder, SureWeld(TM) 20 Ultrasonic PlungeBonder(TM), and SureCut(TM) 35 Ultrasonic Cutter will be on display April 27-29.

WEST CHESTER, Pennsylvania, March 3, 2010-Sonobond Ultrasonics announced today that it will be exhibiting three of its ultrasonic bonding machines at the IDEA10 Show at the Miami Beach Convention Center, April 27-29. In making the announcement, Sonobond's Vice President, Melissa Alleman said, "We are very excited to be participating in the International Engineered Fabrics Conference and Expo. Sonobond is a leading provider of reliable, environmentally-friendly machinery for a wide variety of nonwoven applications. We are looking forward to demonstrating how our equipment provides the fast, cost-effective bonding so essential to manufacturers of filters, medical disposables, and similar products. Sonobond will have three of its bonding machines-plus a video of our filter bag machine-on display. In addition, we will have samples of filters and feminine hygiene products assembled with our units. We invite those coming to Miami for IDEA10 to visit us at Booth #2208."

The SeamMaster (TM) High Profile Bonder
According to Vice President Alleman, one of the Sonobond units on display at IDEA10 will be the SeamMaster(TM) High Profile Bonder. This unit is similar in appearance and operation to traditional sewing machines. However, it uses no thread, glue, or other consumables. The machine is ideal for applications involving bulky materials, hand-guided operations with tight tolerances, and for working around curves. That's because it features a large pattern wheel and a high clearance above the bench. The unit also has production speeds that are up to four times faster than sewing machines and up to ten times faster than adhesive machines.

The SeamMaster(TM) High Profile Bonder is especially useful for the production of medical disposables-such as gowns, face masks, and mattress covers-because it helps manufacturers satisfy OSHA regulations for barrier seams. The SeamMaster(TM) can also be installed with a special fixture for sewing pleated filters. The unit is available as a stand-alone model or as a modular unit for easy integration into the production process.

SureWeld(TM) 20 Ultrasonic PlungeBonder(TM)
The SureWeld(TM) 20 Ultrasonic PlungeBonder(TM) is the second of the three Sonobond units that will be exhibited at IDEA10. This powerful and versatile machine seals large, multiple-layer or difficult-to-bond materials. It can accommodate different thicknesses and multiple layers of materials in just one hit. This unit confidently seals box-style filters and filter bag ends.

The SureWeld(TM) 20 consists of a rugged welding press and a heavy-duty 1000- to 3000-watt power supply. Its high power output enables the unit to achieve superior repeatable performance, while a rigid rectangular support column eliminates deflection, even at the full 660-pound force levels. This equipment also has a built-in leveling feature in the base with "T" slot and toe clamps for fixture holding. Shims are no longer needed to level the nest.

The SureCut(TM) 35 Ultrasonic Hand Cutter
Also on display at IDEA10 (Booth #2208) will be the Sonobond SureCut(TM) Hand Cutter/Sealer. This unit cleanly cuts and seals the edge of synthetic films and fabrics, all in a single pass. The SureCut(TM) 35 eliminates the disadvantages of hot wire and rotating knife cutters by putting an end to fraying, unraveling, or material build-up (beading).

This Sonobond ultrasonic cutter/sealer operates noiselessly and cost- effectively. When a double layer of nonwoven material is passed under the unit, it joins the two layers along the edge as it cuts and seals. Single slits of ribbons, labels, and Velcro strips can be accomplished in one fast operation.

RingMaster(TM) Filter Bag Machine
In addition to the three ultrasonic bonding machines on exhibit, the Sonobond booth at IDEA10 will feature a video showing the company's three-headed RingMaster(TM) Filter Bag Machine in action. In commenting on this, Vice President Alleman said, "Having a video of our RingMaster(TM) unit at IDEA10 is very appropriate. This machine-which we developed for manufacturers of bag filters for chemical and industrial liquid applications-was awarded the IDEA Equipment Award by Nonwovens Industry magazine and INDA, the Association of the Nonwovens Fabrics Industry in 2004."

The RingMaster(TM) uses three 20 kHz ultrasonic modules and 1500-watt power supplies to join the filter bag to a rigid plastic circular frame. The three welding heads each bond 1/6 of the bag and then retract to allow the center fixture to rotate 60º before the heads close to complete the bonding process. This two-step procedure is accomplished in less than ten seconds and creates a dependable 360º bond. Custom tooling is available to accommodate a variety of bag sizes and ring diameters. As many as 250 bags per hour can be produced using this equipment.

The Advantages of Ultrasonic Assembly
More and more manufacturers have discovered the advantages of ultrasonic bonding. Ultrasonic vibrations fuse nonwoven materials, eliminating the need for needles, thread, or glue. As a result, manufacturers and assemblers no longer need to be concerned about stitch holes or glue gaps. This is what makes ultrasonic bonding so ideal for use in the assembly of medical apparel. Seams created by ultrasonic bonding are capable of satisfying the tough regulatory requirements that help protect medical personnel from hazardous fluids. Manufacturers have also proven again and again that Sonobond ultrasonic bonding machines are extremely reliable, cost-effective, and environmentally-friendly. They are also easy to operate with only minimal training.
