SonicWALL Steps up Momentum in SSL-VPN Secure Remote Access

SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 23 - SonicWALL, Inc. (NASDAQ:SNWL) announced today that it has expanded the capabilities of its market-leading SSL-VPN series with new industry certifications and feature enhancements that make remote access even more secure and simple for businesses of all sizes. SonicWALL's SSL-VPN appliances provide small and mid-sized organizations with scalable, secure remote access at a fraction of the total cost of most other SSL-VPN appliances and without the per-user license restrictions of other offerings. SonicWALL SSL-VPN appliances achieved #1 position in worldwide unit share for SSL VPN gateways in 2006, according to Infonetics Research's Network Security Appliances and Software Report for Q4 06.

SonicWALL Firmware Version 2.1 for its SSL-VPN 2000 and 4000 appliances adds drag-and-drop functionality in the new Java version of the file shares applet, enabling users to transfer multiple files and folders through a single command. This new firmware version provides LDAP authentication capabilities for multiple organizational units, and offers access control based on both existing Active Directory group and RADIUS group memberships. SonicWALL NetExtender technology, an ActiveX client downloaded transparently via the Web browser, has been enhanced in Firmware v2.1 to include an MSI stand-alone installer that allows NetExtender to be deployed through Windows Active directory and supports Windows 2000, XP, 2003 and Vista.

SonicWALL also announced its version 2.0 firmware for the SSL-VPN 200 appliance, which provides remote access capabilities to an unrestricted number of users. New features in this version include tokenless two factor authentication, improved bookmark policy options, enhancements to NetExtender's domain suffix support, script execution at connection/disconnection, and custom port designation.

"Security is always a concern with large corporations, and now small businesses are more aware of the importance of securing their systems and communications," said Steve Schmurr, consultant with Activant Solutions Inc. "SonicWALL has taken the difficult job of secure remote networking and made it easy with a product that is reliable, performs well, and is simple for end users to utilize. We've been working with SonicWALL for years and know the value they offer to both Activant and our customers. This value is even more evident with the SonicWALL SSL-VPN."

Industry certifications

SonicWALL's SSL-VPN 2000 and 4000 appliances have received certification from RSA, the leader in the two factor authentication market. Two factor authentication provides an added layer of security in the event that a user's username and static network password have been compromised.

SonicWALL's SSL-VPN 2000 and 4000 appliances have also been certified for VPNC, the international trade association for manufacturers of the VPN market. The association performs interoperability testing on VPN products and helps customers better understand VPN technologies and standards. The SonicWALL appliances were tested and confirmed for interoperability with VPNC's SSL portal, Exchange, Firefox, File Access and JavaScript certifications. "SonicWALL's long-standing commitment to industry standards and interoperability has garnered them certifications in all categories of VPNC's testing," said Paul Hoffman, Director of the VPN Consortium.

"With a significant number of employees on the road or working flexible schedules we wanted to offer remote access to our network, but needed to ensure tight security," says Brian Middendorf, information systems administrator for LI-COR Biosciences. "We've been impressed with SonicWALL SSL-VPN for a number of reasons. From an IT perspective it was easy to implement and it works seamlessly with our Active Directory and third-party firewall. It provides critical, secure access for employees while they are away from the office with the same security levels as on-site network access."
