Solutia Launches New Vistasolar® EVA Encapsulant in Europe

DIETENHEIM, Germany - Solutia Inc. (NYSE: SOA) announced today the launch of their new Vistasolar® 488 ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) encapsulant for solar module manufacturers based in Europe, Middle East, and Africa. This new formulation is designed to help module manufacturers lower the cost of manufacturing by improving production throughput and product yields. Solutia, the market leader for EVA solar encapsulants in Europe, will produce the new encapsulant at their manufacturing center in Dietenheim, Germany.

"Module manufacturers are under pressure to reduce production costs and may not have the flexibility or ability to purchase new equipment," comments Christopher Reed, Global Business Director, Solutia Photovoltaic. "That's why we developed Vistasolar 488. It has wider processing specifications to help manufacturers increase throughput without sacrificing product quality."

Vistasolar 488 will also be produced at Solutia's new manufacturing center in Suzhou, China to provide higher service levels to global module manufacturers and avoid the potential burden of re-certifying modules according to IEC industry standards.

"Vistasolar has been a pioneer in EVA encapsulants since 1980. We're building on our market-leading position in Europe based on proven, high quality formulations and expert service," continues Reed. "Our new Vistasolar 488 is yet another example of how we're developing the right solution to help manufacturers increase production efficiency."

With more than 100 years of combined encapsulation process expertise, manufacturing scale, and a track record of rapid innovation, Solutia is uniquely positioned to provide comprehensive solutions to help global module manufacturers drive down the cost of solar energy.
