Solid-State Viscosity Sensor for Low Shear Applications
Westbrook, Maine - BiODE, Inc. has introduced a new low-shear-rate version of its solid-state ViSmart(TM) viscosity sensor. Designed to instantaneously measure samples of low- to mid-range viscosity fluids, the sensor provides continuous, real-time, in-line viscosity measurements for in-line process control systems that require high resolution and accuracy.
Using robust and reliable semiconductor technology, the BiODE acoustic sensor is 1.3 × 1.1 × 0.4 in and weighs only 4 oz. It has no moving parts, is sealed so it can be completely immersed in the process stream where it is unaffected by vibration or flow conditions. The sensor simultaneously measures fluid viscosity from 1 to 500 centipoise and temperatures up to 125˚C, and requires no field calibration.
Recent laboratory tests confirmed the sensor to have an accuracy of 2%, reproducibility of 3%, and repeatability of 1%. Custom options and configurations are available for specific industry applications and process requirements.
When integrated with the ViscNet(TM) control hub, or to any computer platform via the sensor's standard USB port, ViSmart sensors provide a continuous audit trail for process monitoring to maintain quality standards and control operating costs. In addition, the BiODE eCuptm hand-held reader allows production and quality control personnel to perform spot checks wherever needed.
