Solid State Relays meet harsh partial discharge demands.

Press Release Summary:

Featuring single-pole, normally open design, 600 V Models PLA192E and PLA193E provide 150 and 100 mA load current ratings, respectively. Devices use optically coupled photovoltaic technology and MOSFET output switches to provide input-to-output isolation of 5,000 Vrms. With continuous isolation barrier working voltage of 1,000 V, relays meet partial discharge testing and are certified to EN 60747-5-5 standard, which guarantees they will not fail under extended periods of time and voltage bias.

Original Press Release:

IXYS Integrated Circuits Division Introduces 2 Solid State Relays Certified to the EN 60747-5-5 Standard

The PLA192E and PLA193E have been enhanced to meet harsh partial discharge demands

Beverly, Massachusetts, USA –  IXYS Integrated Circuits Division (“IXYS ICD” formerly Clare, Inc.), a wholly owned subsidiary of IXYS Corporation (NASDAQ: IXYS), announced the immediate availability of the PLA192E and PLA193E, 600V, single-pole, normally open (1-Form-A) Solid State Relays (SSRs) with 150mA  and 100mA load current ratings, respectively.  These devices use an exclusive patented, optically coupled photovoltaic technology and efficient MOSFET output switches to provide an enhanced input-to-output isolation of 5000Vrms.

The PLA192E and PLA193E devices meet partial discharge testing and are certified to the EN 60747-5-5 standard which guarantees that the devices will not fail under extended periods of time and voltage bias. Partial discharge testing is a production isolation-material quality test.  Unlike most isolation safety standards, such as UL1577 and EN60950, which rely on gross over-voltage testing which ensures the isolation robustness, partial discharge testing correlates specifically to long term stability of the isolating material that maintains its isolating properties even after prolonged voltage bias..

EN 60747-5-5 is new optocoupler safety standard and requires 100% partial discharge testing of optocouplers.  Partial discharge testing measures a very low leakage current that develops as a result of the isolation material breakdown.  The PLA192E and PLA193E have a continuous isolation barrier working voltage of 1000V and the partial discharge test is an additional isolation test that is performed after the gross high voltage isolation test.

Applications include: DC to AC power conversion (solar, wind, renewable energy sources), high voltage battery power supplies, designs requiring high continuous DC voltage, other designs (currently primarily European) that require optocoupler partial discharge testing.

Approvals include: UL Recognized Component: File E76270, CSA Certified Component: Certificate 1175739, EN/IEC 60950-1 Certified Component: TUV Certificate B 12 11 82667 002,

DIN EN 60747-5-5 Certified, VDE Certificate

Pricing and Availability

The PLA192E and PLA193E SSRs are available in production quantities. Pricing for OEM quantities of 25KU is $1.31 and $1.19 respectively. For additional information, please contact your local sales representative:
