Original Press Release:

Let the Sun Shine In! VELUX Introduces North America's First Solar-Powered Skylight

All the benefits of a fully-functioning skylight with no electrical  requirements

OAKVILLE, ON - The world's leading skylight and  Sun Tunnel® provider has introduced a completely solar-powered  skylight, a first for North America. The new VELUX Solar Powered 'Fresh  Air' Skylight(TM) eliminates the need for any wiring or electrical and  provides an energy efficient way to add daylight, fresh air and a  cooling function to homes with a simple hassle-free installation.

The solar skylight can be installed facing any direction and is fully  operational even in indirect light. An acoustic rain sensor system  automatically closes the skylight in case of inclement weather and with  no electricity required the skylight can be closed even in the event of  a complete lack of power.

"The evolution to solar means no electrician or wiring work is required,  so you can have all the benefits of a fully-venting skylight more  easily and affordably than ever before," says Nels Moxness, President  of VELUX Canada. "If you don't have an existing skylight, or you have  an older model that doesn't open, this is a very easy way to create a  more comfortable, energy efficient home that can rely less on air  conditioning and electrical lighting."

Skylights draw in fresh air, releasing hot air trapped at the ceiling  and circulating cooler air in the home. Canadians spend an estimated 90  per cent of their time indoors. Increasing the amount of fresh air and  daylight in homes and offices with skylights:

--  Improves air quality - pulling in fresh, drier, oxygen-rich air improves health and comfort

--  Reduces electricity needs for air conditioning and electric lights

--  Brings in twice the daylight of a vertical window without compromising privacy

The Solar Powered Fresh Air Skylight(TM) can be ordered with one of eight  blind options factory installed, including blackout blinds for  bedrooms. Fully operational with one unified remote, skylight and blind  come ready to operate right out of the box.  A further 80 blind options  are available by special order.

For more than 70 years VELUX has brought innovation and artful-design to  builders, architects, merchants and consumers seeking natural light in  their homes. Renowned for the No Leak Skylight(TM), VELUX is the market  leader in the manufacturing of skylights, Sun Tunnels® and roof windows  complemented by a complete range of blinds, electronic accessories and  flashings.  For more details, visit www.VELUX.ca.
