LogMeIn Turns Ordinary Computers into Instant Private Backup Networks

New LogMeIn Backup(TM) Automatically Stores & Recovers Any File, Anytime Between Existing PCs

WOBURN, Mass., April 18 /-- Using the secure, high-speed connectivity of LogMeIn, computer users can now automatically backup their important files to any number of remote and local computers, store them securely and recover them instantly -- without additional hardware, or relying on third-party storage.

Created by LogMeIn, Inc. (formerly 3am Labs), the new LogMeIn Backup quickly, easily and instantly establishes a backup, storage and retrieval network among existing remote PCs, in just minutes. Users simply choose the data to protect, where to store it, and the backup schedule.

"Remote backup is a critical component for mobile users who work across multiple devices and PCs in various locations," said Stephen Drake, program director of IDC's Mobile Software service. "Securing this growing amount of business and personal data is a top priority for the mobile user and the organizations they work for."

Today's Computer Users: More Precious Data, Less Protection

According to market research firm The Diffusion Group, the amount of digital data generated in the home will grow from about 322 GB per home in 2005 to 1,933 GB in 2010. Just as important as enjoying special moments as they happen, is making sure those reminders -- photos, music, documents -- are around for decades to come. Yet more than half of all broadband households backup their data less than two times a year.*

"Between the office, home and school, most of us depend on more than one computer. LogMeIn Backup ensures irreplaceable data is always backed up between those machines," said Michael Simon, CEO of LogMeIn, Inc. "It is ideal for mobile laptops and remote machines."

With LogMeIn Backup, critical and irreplaceable data, from financial reports to photos of a 50th wedding anniversary, are safeguarded against hard drive crashes, theft, viruses, or accidental deletions. There are no limits on the amount of data transferable between systems, and the size of backup is limited only by the available hard drive space. If data loss occurs on one computer, retrieval is just a few clicks away on any other PC connected to a user's LogMeIn Backup system.

The failure rate of every computer hard drive is 100 percent, so it's not a question of if a hard drive will fail, but when. That means most files are left to the mercy of systems that will eventually fail, or to viruses and spyware that can cripple or destroy a system.

LogMeIn's set-and-forget scheduling ensures that users' most current data is automatically backed up to their chosen storage location. When disaster strikes, recovery is as easy as connecting to the storage PC and retrieving the stored data in its original structure to the new PC.

About LogMeIn Backup

LogMeIn Backup is a computer-to-computer backup storage program that quickly and easily protects important files such as:

- Financial records
- Digital photos
- Music
- Videos
- Outlook email
- Contacts and calendar items

Users install LogMeIn Backup on two or more computers, and designate groups of files and folders ("Backup Sets") to be routinely and automatically sent to their machines on which Backup Sets are stored ("Storage PCs"). Backup Sets are stored in a proprietary format on the Storage PC and are easily restored later if disaster strikes, such as a hard drive failure or virus infection.

All Backup Sets are sent via 256-bit SSL, and optionally stored in a password-protected, encrypted state on the Storage PC, ensuring that only the user who stores the data can access it.

Pricing and Availability

LogMeIn Backup beta is available at LogMeInBackup.com. General availability will be by April 30, 2006. All beta users will be automatically upgraded to the final version at which time a 30-day trial will begin. The basic backup network costs $6.95 per month and includes the software for two PCs.
