ANSYS Announces 3Dconnexion Controller Support for ANSYS® 7.0 Workbench Environment

CANONSBURG, Pa., Oct. 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- ANSYS Inc. (Nasdaq: ANSS), a global innovator of simulation software and technologies designed to optimize product development processes, today announced support for the full product line from 3Dconnexion (a Logitech Company), the leading developer of 3D motion controllers. Support for the 3Dconnexion product line -- SpaceBall, SpaceMouse and CadMan -- will be available in the ANSYS 7.0 Workbench Environment, a powerful, easy-to-use simulation software package that gives product designers and engineers the power to conceptualize, design and validate all their ideas right on their desktops.

Users of the ANSYS Workbench Environment, released in early November within the company's DesignSpace(R) product and ANSYS 7.0 flagship product, now will be empowered to enhance their 3D engineering environments into a complete virtual product development system using 3Dconnexion devices. ANSYS Workbench Environment users can explore, manipulate and navigate 3D objects as naturally as objects in the real world to greatly improve design comprehension. Additionally, users will have the ability to detect design errors at an early stage by simply moving and viewing the designs more intuitively, while simultaneously performing advanced analysis with the simulation tools.

"This partnership allows us to offer ANSYS users an even more powerful means of performing their work," said Barry Christenson, manager of ANSYS product marketing. "3Dconnexion is the undisputed leader in the development of 3D motion controllers. It made good business sense to work together to further enable our customers to reduce costs and quickly get to market."

Thousands of engineers and designers worldwide rely on ANSYS and
DesignSpace to produce better products in less time with fewer field failures. By adding 3Dconnexion's functionality, users will find the solution to be richer than ever before and a better way to validate their designs.

"The combination of our market leading products will undoubtedly provide users a competitive advantage," said Barry Smith, vice president of worldwide marketing for 3Dconnexion. "We're delighted to work with ANSYS, as 3Dconnexion has a very successful track record of providing those in the engineering field with the products that they need."
