Visual Network Design Releases Rackwise Enterprise Edition (EE) - Datacenter Planning and Physical Modeling Application

Rackwise Enterprise Edition(TM) server/client application gives customers unprecedented access and customization to more than 20,000 datacenter templates used to model datacenter critical physical infrastructure and generate and share documentation and on-demand reports for heat, cooling, space, ports and power capacity

BURLINGAME, Calif., June 28 // -- Visual Network Design, Inc. (VNDI) today announced the release of Rackwise for Microsoft Visio Enterprise Edition.

"This represents a significant change in our strategy and our ability to address the needs of the largest datacenters in the world. This is much more than a release of a new product," said VNDI President and Chairman Emmett DeMoss. "This new application software positions Rackwise as an Enterprise Class Solution for comprehensive datacenter modeling, configuration and management."

The new Enterprise Edition application features local access and customization of the Rackwise 20,000-device template library, local shape cache, automatic updates, groupware, local (web-based) administration, advanced cable and port management, and template-based custom reporting.

Leveraging Rackwise Standard Edition(TM) (SE) as an application plug-in to Microsoft Visio provides an unprecedented productivity boost to building and maintaining accurate datacenter modeling information and documentation. Bill-of-materials are quickly imported into the Excel data manager which allows the auto-documenting in Microsoft Visio of Rack-based infrastructure. Reports for datacenter asset configurations, and heat, power, ports, and space capacity are automatically documented, doing in minutes what previously took days.

For consolidation of large datacenters, virtualization, and Service Oriented Architectures, users of Rackwise Enterprise Edition are typically saving 90 percent of the time required to fully document IT assets, maintain current asset information, configurations, cables and capacity model prior to implementation.

"New technologies that optimize physical hardware to take advantage of space, power and cooling, like grid computing, virtualization, or Service Oriented Architectures, require a thorough and accurate understanding of the layout of datacenters' physical infrastructure," said Andi Mann of Enterprise Management Associates. "Without understanding the current physical layout, it is almost impossible to rationalize or consolidate physical devices for optimization."

Features in Rackwise Enterprise Edition include:

o Local Application Server and SQL Database - All client data is
stored in the local Microsoft SQL server 2005 database, which can be
maintained and backed up using standard Microsoft tools. All
documentation generated is stored in the local repository (vs.
individual user accounts) which can be mined to support template
and custom reports.

o Local Web-Based Administration and Reporting - Administration is
supported using Microsoft Internet Explorer user interface (UI).
The UI supports template-based provisioning for new users,
Including privileges and access.

o Local Shape Server and Template Library - Rackwise EE contains a
local shape server and template library of over 20,000 IT devices
from over 120 manufactures. This library serves as the local
cache for Rackwise Standard Edition clients. The library can be
modified to support custom properties for devices including
device heat and power demand. Custom devices are easily added to
the library for access by all users.

o Automated New Device Updates - New Device updates are automatically updated, on a scheduled basis, to assure that the
Rackwise master database is always current. As Rackwise adds manufactures and devices, Enterprise Edition is updated, automatically.

o Advanced Cable and Port Management - Shipping with Enterprise Edition is the advanced cable wizard. The cable wizard allows in-rack cable connectivity and dependencies to be easily built and documented. This provides a comprehensive record of all-in-rack connections required for port capacity, configuration changes, troubleshooting, and
repair.

o Groupware - Groupware is supported through the sharing of documents which reside on the Local Application server. Files and
documentation can be easily shared with multiple users.
