Civil Engineers and GIS Professionals Realize their Ideas to Compete and Win, Using the Next Generation of Autodesk's Market-Leading Infrastructure Software

Latest Civil Engineering, Geospatial and Mapping Products Increase Productivity and Improve Data Integration; Part of Autodesk's Biggest-Ever Technology Release

SAN RAFAEL, Calif., March 15, 2005-Delivering a new way to integrate computer automated design (CAD) and geographic information system (GIS) data, Autodesk, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADSK) today made it easier and faster for engineers and mapping professionals to make more informed decisions and gain operational efficiency by better leveraging their valuable information. With the immediate availability of Autodesk® Civil 3D(TM) 2006, Autodesk Map® 3D 2006, Autodesk® Land Desktop 2006, Autodesk® Survey 2006 and Autodesk® Raster Design 2006 software products, Autodesk is simplifying and streamlining the creation, management and sharing of spatial information, enabling customers to make the most of their data and realize their design ideas faster.

The City of Garden Grove, California is home to almost 170,000 residents. Best known for its proximity to Disneyland and popular Orange County beaches, the city has innovative approach to its geographic information system (GIS). "Instead of spending extra money to maintain a municipal GIS department, Autodesk lets us integrate both our CAD and GIS data together which has saved us hundreds of thousands of dollars and has provided a level of data precision that's unmatched by other solutions," said Jim Deyo, Garden Grove's GIS coordinator and only dedicated GIS specialist. "With the new features in Autodesk Map 3D 2006 it will be easier than ever for our designers and engineers to integrate data from other sources when updating maps, then communicate richer information downstream to other departments throughout the city."

"Autodesk Civil 3D continues to change the way our engineers work. Dynamic annotation means that our engineers spend more time designing and less time drafting," said James Wedding, P.E. Technology Manager & Associate Jones & Boyd, Inc., a longstanding Autodesk customer. The new features and expanded corridor modeling in Autodesk Civil 3D 2006 give us more of the tools we need to design from start to finish, all while taking advantage of the latest AutoCad technologies."

A Comprehensive Portfolio of Infrastructure Solutions

Delivering on its strategy to solve critical business challenges, Autodesk's Infrastructure Solutions Division helps customers create, manage and share valuable mapping, civil engineering and design data. Offering the most comprehensive portfolio of infrastructure products available, customers design better quality products, accelerate time to market, and achieve maximum project productivity and efficiency. Unlike other offerings on the market today, these solutions offer open and flexible environments that are easy to deploy and use, making the most of valuable spatial data. Autodesk infrastructure solutions include Autodesk Civil 3D 2006, Autodesk Map 3D 2006, Autodesk Land Desktop 2006, Autodesk Raster Design 2006, Autodesk Survey 2006, Autodesk MapGuide® 6.5 software, Autodesk® GIS Design Server and Autodesk® Utility Design. In addition, customers can take advantage of purpose-built solutions designed to meet the needs of specific industries: Public Works, Transportation, Civil Engineering and Construction, Mapping and GIS, and Electric Utilities. Customers can also take advantage of widely available third-party applications purpose-built for Autodesk software.

"Autodesk is offering customers a new way to simplify data access and data sharing between engineering, GIS and IT departments," said Chris Bradshaw, vice president of the Infrastructure Solutions Division for Autodesk. "Our latest Infrastructure products, built on the AutoCAD 2006 platform, make it even easier for organizations to unlock spatial data from proprietary systems and share it with other departments. Customers tell us that this integrated approach improves productivity tremendously."

New Products and Features

Autodesk Civil 3D 2006 software is a powerful civil engineering application designed to increase productivity. Using a dynamic engineering model, customers complete road, site, sewer, storm drain and subdivision projects faster and more accurately. New features include:

Integration of pipes (sanitary, storm drainage and more)-now, pipe network changes result in drafting updates, providing a more comprehensive design package for civil engineers

Multi-user access to surfaces, points, alignments and profiles-plans or profile sheets are in sync regardless of the number of people involved in the project, minimizing duplication and errors

Extended corridor modeling capabilities-new editing capabilities

Powerful common Application Programming Interface (COM API)-helps developers quickly build applications for creating and querying civil data

Autodesk Map 3D 2006 software connects CAD and GIS by providing powerful creation and editing tools for GIS professionals and the geospatial features that engineers, mapping professionals and CAD technicians require. New features include:

Directly read and write Oracle® and ArcSDE -directly and simultaneously access proprietary and non-proprietary data from multiple databases and files (including Oracle9i, Oracle 10g(TM), and ArcSDE). This direct access helps ensure the accuracy of information by minimizing data conversion. By providing an open alternative to ArcGIS® for editing ArcSDE data, customers have greater flexibility when choosing an editing environment.

Improved Display Manager- easily query and stylize data-create compelling presentations for use when communicating with clients and other departments

New MapBooks- simplifies and automates a complex task that customers perform on a regular basis - producing map books for the office or the field

Improved GIS User Interface - modern, flexible toolbars and commands are now task based and easy to learn, speeding productivity

Autodesk Raster Design 2006, enables customers to clean up, edit or vectorize scanned drawings without performing expensive redrafting. Integrate maps, aerial photos, satellite imagery and digital elevation models to enhance presentations, design and project deliverables. New features include:

Enhanced raster cleanup and raster editing tools - "Paint-like" cleanup tool speeds project cleanup and delivery time

Extended Presentation Tools - capture images for use in applications both within and outside of AutoCAD® application

Ability to edit, modify and save DEM and multispectral imagery - allows more efficient and convenient use of these large imagery sources

Raster Data Querying - provides raster data for more informed decisions

Additional Image Saving Support - for JPG2000 and GeoTIFF image formats
