Wonderware's DT Analyst 2.0 Increases Plant Profitability

New Version Gives Insight Into Improvement Opportunities; Adds Real-Time Overall Equipment Effectiveness

LAKE FOREST, Calif., Aug. 20, 2002 -- Wonderware, an operating unit of Invensys plc, today introduced version 2.0 of its award-winning DT Analyst(TM) system for improving plant profitability. DT Analyst supports production efficiency initiatives by equipping teams with accurate, detailed information on plant production, equipment availability and the reasons behind availability losses. Along with Wonderware's other industrial intelligence offerings, DT Analyst provides manufacturers with the ability to visualize, analyze and optimize plant operations for improving return on capital investments.

DT Analyst 2.0 now supports near real-time overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) calculations. OEE, a widely used metric of efficiency, is commonly used to compare the performance of plants, lines and even production teams. OEE combines product quality, equipment availability and performance into a single, straightforward metric. While traditional daily or shift-based OEE initiatives provide a basis for comparison, DT Analyst with its near real-time calculations provides the detailed information needed to pinpoint the reasons behind efficiency differences. This precision makes DT Analyst a valuable tool for making operational, as well as administrative, decisions.

Equipped with information from DT Analyst, plant engineers and managers can make informed decisions about:
-- Which raw materials from specific suppliers are processed most efficiently.
-- How much the difference in production across lines depends on the equipment, product, shift and operator.
-- Machines that need to be serviced, replaced or decommissioned.
-- The most severe availability problems.

Armed with answers to these types of questions, plant staff can make improvements in plant profitability by favoring better suppliers and identifying and spreading best practices, as well as through targeted maintenance activities. The detailed information collected by DT Analyst also makes it easier to quantify the benefits required in justifying capital projects.

The initial release of DT Analyst earned Frost & Sullivan's Technology Leadership Award and Control Engineering magazine's Editors' Choice Award.

"The new support for real-time OEE gives plant managers a clear, up-to-the-minute indication of overall plant performance and gives operators and engineers the insights they need to make improvements," said Elliott Middleton, DT Analyst product manager at Wonderware. "Last year's initial release of DT Analyst made a significant impact on our customers' bottom lines. We have even higher expectations for version 2.0."
