Spatial Integration Adapter for IBM WebSphere Studio -- Spatially Enable Your Enterprise Applications

Overview

The Spatial Integration Adapter for WebSphere® Studio is built on an Eclipse platform. It is an Eclipse adapter that enables developers to create geographic applications or applications which incorporate geographic analysis with an intuitive toolset.

The toolset will support spatial objects (drag-and-drop), creation of new projects, samples, and so on. This toolset, using ESRI ArcGIS Server components, delivers to the WebSphere developer all the capabilities offered by ESRI's ArcGIS geospatial objects through the Java(TM) standards environment.

The Spatial Integration Adapter for WebSphere Studio is an Eclipse plug-in which extends WebSphere Studio Application Developer to include support for development of applications demanding geographic (spatial) content. This adapter uses spatial objects from the ESRI ArcGIS Server

ArcGIS Server provides:

· Browser-based access to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) analysis functions
· Ability to deliver advanced GIS Web services
· Ability to develop custom applications using Java
· Integration of GIS and other IT technologies
· Centrally managed, multiuser editing capabilities
· Ability to perform focused spatial analysis operations on a server

Once installed in the WebSphere Studio environment, this adapter allows programmers, creating the presentation portion and business logic of a WebSphere-based application, to apply visual programming techniques, such as drag-and-drop of spatial objects, to the creation of Web-based content.

The Spatial Integration Adapter for WebSphere Studio extends WebSphere Studio, allowing the application programmer to:

· Create new spatial projects

· Create EJB and Java Servlets with spatial components

· Work with design, source, and quick edit WebSphere Studio views

· Support drag-and-drop of ESRI ArcGIS Server Spatial Objects

· Support Geocoding

· Map a document
- Identify results
- North arrow
- Overview map
- Page layout
- Scale bar
- Table of contents

· Work with ESRI Spatial JSP Tag Library

· Allow ESRI's Design Templates to be used in a WebSphere environment

· Create new spatial Web Services

Key prerequisites

· WebSphere Studio (V5.1.2, and later)

· WebSphere Application Server (V5.0, and later)

· ArcGIS Server (V9.0, and later)

· ArcCatalog (part of ArcGIS Desktop) (V9.0, and later)

· DB2® UDB ESE (V8.1, and later)

At a glance

Spatial Integration Adapter for WebSphere Studio is developed by DB2 Information Management:

· This development platform enables the creation of enterprise geospatial applications.

· This platform represents the premier path for customers, partners, and systems integrators electing to pursue an open-standard, highly scalable, Java-based approach to develop enterprise-wide solutions using the most extensive, field-proven, spatial objects from Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI).
