Intermec's New MobileLAN Manager 2.0 Software Simplifies Wireless Network Management

Enterprise LAN Management Tools and Features Now Available for WLAN Environments

CHICAGO, Ill., Sept. 17, 2002 - Intermec Technologies Corp. today introduced MobileLAN(TM) manager 2.0, a platform-independent network management application for wireless networks. MobileLAN manager allows IT managers to map devices, track, manage and ensure the availability of access points and devices within their wireless networks.

Designed for IT managers in a wide range of settings, from the largest companies to the smallest office, Java-based MobileLAN manager is an intuitive, scalable software package that features high-end management capabilities to track new and existing network devices and increase network efficiency. MobileLAN manager 2.0 will be available in October of this year for $995 per seat.

"MobileLAN manager is the most robust enterprise-level wireless LAN management system ever introduced by Intermec," said Tom Dowd, Intermec principal product manager. "This application brings the very best in network management - the types of capabilities that usually cost tens of thousands of dollars and can be justified only by the largest of companies - to any group of people with a wireless network. It works beautifully for the big guys, but is affordable for offices with just three or four access points."

MobileLAN manager includes real-time, event-driven monitoring of changes and events within the network, thereby helping users manage the system by providing information about any abnormal behavior. Tools and features of MobileLAN manager include:

o Wireless LAN Mapping - Allows network managers to create a map of their building, campus - anywhere within their network - and "drag and drop" access points onto the map. The resulting graphical depiction gives an overall view of the network and its related devices and activities.

o Device Information Management - Invaluable for tracking individual devices attached to the network, this tool associates each device with its assigned access point, tracks who "owns" the device, and can even launch a Web interface between MobileLAN manager and the device.

o Software Download Management - Bringing security and flexibility to what once was a cumbersome and time-consuming chore, this feature allows network managers to verify and upgrade client software on one access point or a group of APs at any time.

o Authentication Failure Intruder Alert - Immediately notifies the network manager of failed attempts to log on to the network, trapping anyone who tries to enter without the correct password.

MobileLAN manager allows users to specify a network device and scope its activity with a single click. A double click invokes a status dialog box for expanded information. Smart Polling provides timely health and existence information for single access point installations, and Station Refresh graphically identifies those stations that are currently operating or missing in action.
