Tellabs® 8000 Network Manager Opens Up a New, Higher Level of Information

Service providers can now see into the network cloud

BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 16 / / - Mobile World Congress - What if service providers could predict - and prevent - network storms before they occurred? With the new release of the Tellabs® 8000 Network Manager they can. The Tellabs 8000 Network Manager release 17 blows away the typical telecommunications transport cloud and reveals a clear view on network pipes and operations.

With this new release, service providers can ensure that customer promises are truly fulfilled and there is real value for the money. The Tellabs 8000 network manager's VPN provisioning tool provides a new, higher level transparency for pseudowires and tunnels. Why would anyone settle for less?

The new graphical layer view of pseudowires and tunnels, backed up with usability and workflow enhancements, brings more network management power into the hands of service providers. Service provisioning is faster and easier with automated wizards, procedures and templates, which can be tailored to individual needs. The release also enhances mass service configuration tools, improving workflow and usability features to deliver clear cost savings.

"The Tellabs 8000 manager helps service providers handle everyday network routines more easily, cost-efficiently and flexibly," said Mika Heikkinen, vice president and general manager, Tellabs Finland. "With simple and user-friendly point-and-click operations, users can view the exact traffic path hop by hop as well as the status of individual pseudowires and tunnels."

Stop the storm before it starts

Another new feature packed into the release is a performance trend analysis tool. The tool monitors network traffic and use, and calculates traffic trends. So service providers can improve network optimization, reduce costs and do solid planning for the future.

Putting more power into service provisioning tools and network optimization features means that the service-level testing and monitoring capabilities must be geared up too. Release 17 improves service-level testing and fault monitoring capabilities to reduce the risk of errors and improve smooth service performance.

See clearly into all types of clouds

Service providers are challenged by new services, emerging technologies and evolving telecommunications systems. Flawless and up-to-date information on network and service level operations in detail is the key. Operators need to know they get all the capacity they pay for, and that all network operations function smoothly regardless of what technology they use.

The Tellabs 8000 manager release 17 extends its best-in-class manageability to the optical layer and DSL. Now, service providers can offer managed services all the way from high capacity DWDM to DSL services in addition to existing IP MPLS, Ethernet, ATM, FR, TDM, PDH and SDH services.

In the release 17, the Tellabs® 7100 Optical Transport System complements the existing wide range of Tellabs systems being managed by the integrated Tellabs 8000 network manager:

o Tellabs® 8800 Multiservice Router Series;

o Tellabs® 8600 Managed Edge System;

o Tellabs® 8100 Managed Access System; and

o Tellabs® 6300 Managed Transport System.

The Tellabs 8000 manager also supports multi vendor network environments both in mobile and fixed infrastructures.

Tellabs 8000 network manager release 17 is generally available. The system is showcased at Tellabs stand 2A47 in Hall 2 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, Feb. 16 - 19, 2009.
