Tektronix Provides Industry-First Integrated Video Test for 3G Networks

Integration of MTS4EA Video Elementary Stream (ES) Analyzer and K15 Version 2.10 Provides a Video Quality Analysis Application for H.324M Video Telephony

BEAVERTON, Ore., Feb. 8 - Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE:TEK), a leading worldwide provider of network management and diagnostics products, announced the K15 version 2.1 for its market leading wireless network monitoring platform that provides the ability to analyze H.324M video telephony quality of service by monitoring the UMTS core network Iu-CS interface. Customers are able to obtain deeper video quality analysis by sharing the video files with the Tektronix MTS4EA Elementary Stream Analyzer to investigate and analyze compressed video data.

The introduction of third generation mobile systems has enabled mobile network operators to offer a new range of mobile service to subscribers. The traditional voice offering is now complemented by a multitude of new services like video telephony, video streaming, video clip download and mobile web surfing. Customer satisfaction is key for value creation, and mobile network operators have to be able to monitor and manage the quality of the service they deliver to subscribers.

The K15 version 2.1 is able to display all video telephony calls going in a live 3G mobile network. Customers are able to select H.324M video calls on the Iu-CS interface, calculate key performance indicators (KPIs) and extract the voice/video stream of each H.324M video call. The data can be loaded into a Tektronix MTS4EA elementary video stream analysis tool for complete Video Quality of Service (VQoS) analysis.

"Network operators understand that video content can not be treated as data in the network," said Alois Hauk, Vice President and General Manager, Monitoring & Protocol Test, Tektronix. "Tektronix' unmatched expertise in video quality testing and recognized leadership in mobile protocol monitoring solutions, are now integrated to offer the most powerful 3G video test in the market. The integration of these products dramatically expands support for mobile network operators by enabling them to perform a deep analysis on the transmitted video quality of service."

"With the Tektronix K15 version 2.1 we plan to capture, view and analyze video traffic on our UMTS network," said Stephane Mendez, Head of Radio Network Engineering, North-Eastern Region, SFR. "We will be able to analyze select video files and store the content as well as the associated signaling information. The video files can be viewed with any MPEG viewer for subjective quality and as a first check. By feeding the file to the MTS4EA software we will be able to obtain an in-depth analysis of quality and reliability. This is a set of capabilities that we do not have today and which will help us to identify and resolve video problems on the network so that our customers obtain a higher quality of service."

Additionally, K15 Version 2.10 features decoding support for new protocol updates for all leading mobile technologies.

About the K15 Protocol Test Platform

Tektronix' K15 protocol test platform and application software support troubleshooting of live and trial 3G, 2.5G, and 2G mobile networks. It is a high-end, portable hardware platform with a suite of advanced software applications. The platform runs on a high-performance cPCI bus architecture that hosts several boards to connect to multiple interfaces including E1/T1/J1 electrical, STM-1 optical, and 10/100 Mbit/s Fast Ethernet. Remote control and NTP/GPS time synchronization between different units are integrated into the platform. Available software applications include decoding for EDGE, UMTS and CDMA2000 protocols; expert software for real-time Multi-Interface Call Trace for EDGE, UMTS and CDMA2000; automatic UMTS Iub monitoring configuration; and offline GPRS network performances analysis.
