McAfee Total Protection for Enterprise 2.0 Strengthens Proactive Threat Prevention

New Offering Bolsters Security Risk Management Strategy With Enhanced Features and Cisco-compatible Network Admission Control

SANTA CLARA, Calif., Dec. 4 // -- McAfee, Inc. (NYSE:MFE) today announced the latest release of its Total Protection solution, McAfee(R) Total Protection for Enterprise 2.0. The release further strengthens the threat prevention side of McAfee's security risk management strategy while reducing the complexity, expense and headaches of multiple standalone products. The latest release updates key components including McAfee VirusScan(R) Enterprise, McAfee AntiSpyware(TM) Enterprise and McAfee Policy Enforcer network access control, and adds McAfee SiteAdvisor Enterprise to Total Protection for Enterprise Advanced.

"As computer threats become more sophisticated, security environments become more complex," said Chris Kenworthy, senior vice president, McAfee, Inc. "Managing a series of applications from multiple vendors is like driving a car with multiple dashboards. McAfee offers powerful threat prevention, managed through a single dashboard, for greater security risk management."

McAfee's Network Access Control (NAC)

Network access control is a vital component of McAfee Total Protection for Enterprise 2.0, and a critical part of enterprise security risk management. McAfee NAC is a software-based solution with three major components: Policy Enforcer server, Policy Enforcer sensor and Policy Enforcer scanner. Policy Enforcer is part of McAfee Total Protection for Enterprise -- Advanced, which offers a single agent and a single management console.

McAfee Policy Enforcer integrates with the popular ePolicy Orchestrator(R) (ePO) management system to provide robust reporting options of compliance in corporate networks. This provides customers with a record of "due care" taken to help prevent infections and outbreaks.

Policy Enforcer2.0 is now certified as compatible for Cisco Network Admission Control (NAC). Products certified for Cisco Network Admission Control, a set of technologies built on an industry initiative led by Cisco, use the network infrastructure to enforce security policy compliance on all devices seeking access to network resources. NAC Certification will allow McAfee customers who also have NAC-enabled Cisco hardware in their environment to grant network access to compliant and trusted endpoint devices (PCs, servers, and PDAs, for example) and restrict the access of noncompliant devices, thereby helping prevent damage from potential security threats.

"Customers want network admission enforcement combined with centrally managed endpoint security," said Russell Rice, director of marketing for NAC at Cisco. "Together, McAfee and Cisco provide the ability to define security policies, assess systems to determine their security posture, and enforce admission decisions with system remediation, when appropriate. Customers benefit from their existing NAC-enabled and compatible solutions and their network infrastructure."

Strengthens Proactive Threat Prevention

McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i and McAfee AntiSpyware Enterprise 8.5 provide advanced, proactive protection from viruses, worms, spyware, adware, rootkits, hacker attacks, exploits and more, for desktops and servers. The new technology goes beyond simply offering protection from a database of signatures, using advanced behavioral technology protecting systems from both known and unknown threats.

McAfee AntiSpyware Enterprise 8.5 uses this behavioral technology to prevent unknown or new variants of spyware and other unwanted programs that are being used by today's organized cyber-criminals. Complete and scalable centralized management with McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator enables centralized policy management, mass deployment, and enterprise-level reporting.

"The improvements to McAfee VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i and McAfee AntiSpyware Enterprise 8.5 are great," said Shem Giles, systems manager for Portland State University. "We have been running the previous version of McAfee VirusScan Enterprise, and this version has improved its detections for malware and spyware. We are also pleased to see the behavioral-based protection improvements in this version that can protect against sophisticated spyware or zero-day attacks."

The key new enhancements include:

o Enhanced behavioral-based protection to stop unknown and sophisticated
attacks
o Advanced rootkit detection to stop attackers and spyware from hiding
threats
o Improved self-protection to prevent malware or attackers from disabling
protection

To provide additional protection for users browsing the Internet, Total Protection for Enterprise Advanced includes McAfee Site Advisor Enterprise, providing users the ability to safely search the Internet. The easy to use solution, for Internet Explorer and Firefox, summarizes safety results into intuitive red, yellow and green ratings to help web users stay safe as they search, browse and transact online. McAfee SiteAdvisor Enterprise helps protect users against a new breed of "social engineering" tricks such as spyware infections, identity theft scams, and websites which send excessive e-mail.

McAfee Continues to Delivers on Strategy

McAfee recently announced its security risk management strategy and continues to execute on the unique approach. The strategy provides the most effective way for organizations to minimize risks from security threats and non-compliance. This strategy builds on McAfee's core strengths in threat prevention, with new compliance management offerings including remediation, network access control and data leakage prevention. McAfee has a strong record of integrating its acquisitions into ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO), the industry's most popular security management console. With ePO deployed in approximately one third of all enterprises, McAfee is well positioned to execute on its vision of integration, automation and centralized management.
