Adept Technology Announces PC-Based, Real-Time Robot and Motion Control

New Adept ActiveV+(TM) Software Offers Real-time Control of Adept Robot and Motion Controller Products

Livermore, California - September 15, 2003 - Adept Technology, Inc. (OTCBB: ADTK.OB), a leading manufacturer of flexible automation for the semiconductor, electronics, automotive, fiber optic, telecommunications, and life sciences industries, today announced the release of Adept ActiveV+(TM) software that allows real-time control of Adept robots and motion controllers from native PC languages using Microsoft Component Object Model (COM) technology. Adept ActiveV+ software enables application developers to control Adept Cobra(TM) robots, AdeptSix(TM) 6-axis robots, Adept SmartModules(TM) and all SmartController(TM)-based products from PC hardware using software tools like Visual Basic® and C++®.

"More and more customers who have invested heavily in PC-based application development are looking to easily and transparently integrate Adept robots and Adept controller-based robots into their pre-existing application," said Charlie Duncheon, executive vice president of Adept Technology. "Adept ActiveV+ allows customers to have the flexibility and ease-of-use of an Microsoft Windows open architecture environment, together with the reliability and robustness of a factory-proven Adept robot and motion control architecture."

Adept ActiveV+ enables a PC to issue direct real-time robot motion and monitor commands over an Ethernet- or FireWire®-based high-speed bus. Using Microsoft's ActiveX controls, ActiveV+ allows customers to develop programs in native PC languages like Visual Basic and C++ to move and monitor Adept robots and Adept controller-based mechanisms, and easily integrate Adept HexSight PC-based machine vision software and third-party PC-based automation thereby creating a complete PC-based motion and vision solution.

Adept ActiveV+(TM) allows integrators, robot system developers and machine builders to develop application code independent of robot hardware, ensuring the reusability and security of their development effort, and enabling software developers to quickly apply previously developed and debugged PC-based application software to Adept robots and motion control products using standard open architecture tools.

Adept Technology designs, manufactures and markets factory automation components and systems for the fiber optic, telecommunications, semiconductor, automotive, food and durable goods industries throughout the world.
