Pavilion Technologies Releases Process Perfecter® Version 6.5

Arms Manufacturers' with Improved Flexibility and Profitability

AUSTIN Texas < October 16, 2002 < Pavilion Technologies, Inc. announces the release of Process Perfecter 6.5 designed to improve a manufacturer's ability to attain target scheduling milestones with greater speed, efficiency and ease. Process Perfecter 6.5 is the only model predictive control software to provide continuous process manufacturers with 'end time control,' allowing users to define the end time of a process or transition as part of their control solution. Manufacturers with a diverse product portfolio that demands numerous start-up processes or production transitions will experience more control over their production process. Pavilion's universal optimization and control software, Process Perfecter, allows manufacturers to continually reduce process variability and improve business profitability.

"Since its release in 1996 Process Perfecter has controlled the minute-to-minute production of billions of dollars in product. From polymers to milk to cement, we make our customers more agile and profitable than their competitors," said Doug Johnson, COO of Pavilion.

This latest advancement arms managers with even more flexibility to meet the changing demands of the business environment. Applicable to multiple industries, Process Perfecter 6.5 further reduces manufacturing costs through less off-spec product caused in transition. In addition, it improves revenue opportunities and customer satisfaction through increased capacity and on-time production.

The end time control feature moves the process control horizon one step closer each time the Process Perfecter software executes an action. This enables manufacturers to control problems in which the production time is specified. For example, when transitioning from one process to another, users can prescribe the desired time required for the transition. The new control feature uses the approaching horizon to modify the control actions to ensure the process arrives at the new condition at the specified time. Users can now include time as well as product quality and other business goals in the optimization solution.

"This release opens up our software architecture allowing us to control more types of production processes," said Neil Crain, director of product development for Pavilion. "We continue to invest in control and optimization software so that our customers have the tools they need to meet the demands of today - speed, accuracy, and performance."

Version 6.5 expands on the advances made in the 6.0 software suite release. Process Perfecter 6.0 includes features that enable large-scale optimization and control applications, improve disturbance rejection, and enhance real-time control through a better understanding of future events.

As a result, customers can reduce project implementation time, better manage disturbances and transitions, and facilitate multi-unit optimization throughout an enterprise.

Process Perfecter unifies the control and optimization disciplines into a single solution, thereby reducing process variability and continually improving plant performance based on real-time plant data. Built upon Pavilion's patented foundation of non-linear neural network modeling technologies, Process Perfecter optimizes and performs closed-loop dynamic control on continuous production, energy, and environmental processes. Using process data in the form of empirical models, Process Perfecter optimizes based on current operating conditions, targets, constraints, and objectives.

Process Perfecter 6.5 supports the following platforms: Alpha OpenVMS (version 6.2 or later), VAX VMS (version 6.2 or later), Sun Solaris (SunOS 5.5.1 or later), HP-UX (10.2 or later), Windows NT 4.0 (service pack 4, 5, or 6a), Windows 2000 (service pack 1 and 2) and Windows 2000 Server.
