Software provides online monitoring of turbines.

Press Release Summary:

As component of Emerson's PlantWeb® digital plant architecture, CSI 4500 Machinery Health(TM) Monitor application enables user to monitor machine performance during critical transient operations such as turbine startup and shutdown. Five different plots, orbits, shaft centerlines, Bode/Nyquist, waveform, and cascade, can be viewed simultaneously in full dual-monitor mode. User can view exact data they need to make critical decisions about turbomachinery operations.

Original Press Release:

Emerson Announces New Technology for Live, Continuous Turbine Health Monitoring During Transient Operations

Expanding its mission of helping users prevent costly plant shutdowns, Emerson Process Management has introduced a CSI 4500 Machinery Health(TM) Monitor application that provides live, continuous monitoring of turbines used for main power and other critical processes during transient conditions. This innovative new condition monitoring technology supports predictive and proactive maintenance by presenting data for asset management decision making.

The CSI 4500 Machinery Health Monitor, a component of Emerson's PlantWeb® digital plant architecture, provides vital information necessary to prevent catastrophic failure. AMS(TM) Suite: Machinery Health(TM) Manager software simplifies display of the information, and its use for maintenance. Data can be viewed live at the time of an event for valuable insight during critical transient operations such as turbine startup and shutdown when turbine problems are most likely to occur. The same information from turnarounds and unscheduled trips can be stored and retrieved later for detailed analysis.

The CSI 4500 Monitor is complementary to the AMS(TM) Suite: Equipment Performance Monitor, which monitors the efficiency of the same turbomachinery equipment. The two applications together allow customers to know both the condition and the performance of their turbomachinery, and to schedule maintenance for optimal cost benefit. Additionally both applications can be used in an integrated, secure web environment - the AMS Suite: Asset Portal.

The CSI 4500 provides continuous online monitoring well beyond systems that provide only periodic snapshots of the operation. While up to 60 hours of data from up to 32 channels is written to the systems internal hard drive, users can extract data and view live plots of events for analysis while the monitoring process continues. Five different plots - orbits, shaft centerlines, Bode/Nyquist, waveform, and cascade - from every bearing in the machine can be viewed simultaneously, in full dual-monitor mode. With the CSI 4500 and AMS Machinery Manager, users can view the exact data they need at the time they need it to make critical decisions about turbomachinery operations.

Even with its sophisticated technology, setup for the CSI 4500 is extremely simple. When you want continuous data collection on all 32 channels, simply access AMS Machinery Manager and select all channels. When you want to monitor less than 32 channels, the software allows you to select only those channels you wish to consider. Since monitoring is continuous, there is no need to set or adjust time limits or other boundaries on data collection.
