Entrust Tackles Next Level of Data Vulnerability By Introducing Network Folder Encryption Solution for Workgroups

Patented Group Key Technology Offers Industry-First Technology With High Manageability and Audit Capabilities

DALLAS, Dec. 6 /-- Sharing files among a group of employees, while commonplace in most organizations, presents a source of great risk of data breach. To help organizations make sure shared files are protected, Entrust, Inc. (NASDAQ:ENTU) has developed Entrust Entelligence Group Share, a sophisticated network folder encryption solution.

Entrust Entelligence Group Share helps organizations protect data stored on corporate networks in a manner that is automatic, transparent to the end user and persistent. With zero touch folder administration, Entrust Entelligence Group Share offers unprecedented manageability allowing the ability to change permissions on a shared folder without having to modify the folder or its contents - eliminating the need to re-encrypt data when permissions are changed. The solution also provides greater visibility on encrypted folder activity, creating an audit log including what users accessed which folders, from what location and at what specific time.

"Enterprises have been calling for a network folder encryption solution that features centralized management, offers persistent encryption and is easy to operate and manage," said Gartner Research Vice President Eric Ouellet. "A solution that is transparent and automatic can be implemented into a variety of environments and offers advanced auditing capabilities which will be a welcomed approach in contrast to traditional client-based systems."

Leveraging some key benefits of public key infrastructure (PKI) without having to own or manage a separate PKI, Entrust's patented Group Key technology is the core of the Entrust Entelligence Group Share solution. It allows encryption using the same keys, but the corresponding private key used to decrypt those files is only distributed when the user proves they are allowed to access the encrypted content. Entrust Entelligence Group Share stores the decryption keys on the server. This centralized model provides a higher level of security because the decryption keys are not permanently stored on the client.

Entrust Entelligence Group Share's patent-protected, client-server architecture is transparent and automatic to the end-user, and also leverages persistent encryption to secure files and folders even if they are moved or copied to an external server, disk, drive or USB device.

"While organizations have moved to secure laptops, backup tapes and USB drives, the next security risk is the vulnerability of shared network files among workgroups. The first generation of shared folder encryption products on the market were a bit clumsy - requiring the administrator to jump through hoops when changing permissions, and nearly impossible to audit," said Entrust Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Bill Conner. "We are pleased to offer a security solution that provides the high manageability and an audit trail organizations need to effectively address this security gap and meet regulatory requirements."

To address interoperability, Group Share can extend outside the enterprise to allow the transfer and collaboration of information and sensitive data with partners and suppliers. By granting specific parties access, Group Share allows the collaboration of vital business assets without comprising security.
