Visionary Leader CREDANT Technologies Raises the Bar for Mobile Data Protection

New Version of CREDANT Mobile Guardian Introduces Industry Firsts-Disabling of Smartphone Cameras, Encryption of Data on RIM Blackberry Devices and Single Sign-on for Mobile Devices

CHICAGO, Illinois - March 8, 2004 - CREDANT Technologies®, the market leader in providing software that enables organizations to control security enterprise-wide for mobile workers, today introduced version 3.5 of its award-winning security and management software platform, CREDANT Mobile Guardian, at the Gartner Mobile and Wireless Summit 2004 in Chicago. With new functionality that further enhances security and simplifies a mobile user's experience, the new release introduces "industry firsts" including the ability to control the use of cameras on smartphones; encryption of emails and attachments and self-service password reset for Research in Motion (RIM) devices; and single sign-on for Windows Mobile Pocket PC and Palm-based devices. CREDANT is recognized as the visionary leader in the Mobile Data Protection Magic Quadrant by Gartner, a leading industry analyst firm. The new release further raises the competitive bar and validates CREDANT's leadership position in the mobile data protection market.

"According to the Gartner report , CREDANT has raised the threshold at which other vendors can pursue leadership and we will continue to raise the competitive bar in 2004 by providing customer value through unprecedented levels of product innovation and strategic partnerships," said Bob Heard, president and CEO, CREDANT Technologies. "This release strengthens our leadership position by addressing two major issues organizations are faced with today - the need to control camera abuse in the workplace, and the requirement to secure sensitive information contained on executives' Blackberry devices. Another milestone, this release moves us closer to our goal of providing the most comprehensive security solution for the mobile ecosystem."

CREDANT Mobile Guardian 3.5 builds on the patent-pending architecture of its prior release. Enhanced functionality includes:

Controlling the use of camera, microphone, Instant Messaging and Bluetooth on smartphones and PDAs to ensure policy compliance

Organizations concerned about the privacy of information and the potential use of smartphone cameras and/or microphones to record sensitive company events and documents or confidential conversations can now easily disable these functions. Using CREDANT Mobile Guardian's centralized policy management capabilities, administrators can set policies that are enforced on smartphones and PDAs to disable specific applications including the camera and microphone-even Instant Messaging, as well as IR and Bluetooth communication ports.

Expanded platform coverage enables enterprises to administer the broadest range of mobile devices from a single management interface

With the addition of support for Research in Motion's 7000, 6000 and 5800 series Blackberry Data and Voice Enabled Wireless Handhelds, CREDANT Mobile Guardian now enables organizations to easily establish and enforce common security policies across RIM, Windows, Windows Mobile, and Palm-based hardware platforms from a single management interface. Providing the industry's first solution for encryption of e-mail and attachments, calendar and contact information, CREDANT Mobile Guardian also enables an authenticated RIM user to reset his/her own password when forgotten¾allowing access to the device without calling the help desk. For RIM smartphone users, CREDANT Mobile Guardian blends security and ease of use by imposing security only when accessing PDA functionality, and does not hinder telephone calls in any way.

Single sign-on (SSO) API simplifies password management and improves user experience

Introducing the industry's first SSO API, CREDANT Mobile Guardian is for software vendors or companies who are developing mobile applications and do not want to have to build and support application-specific security. The CREDANT Mobile Guardian SSO API enables an organization to improve the end-user experience by implementing one password to access all mobile applications, the network and back-end enterprise applications.

Lock down smartphone and PDA touch screen and keys to eliminate accidental activation or inadvertently placing a telephone call

Key locks on mobile phones prevent telephone calls from being accidentally placed. However, many PDAs and smartphones do not provide this capability. As a result, telephone calls can be inadvertently placed or applications can be activated when a device moves in a pocket or purse. With CREDANT Mobile Guardian, mobile employees can define a lock sequence to protect their devices from accidental activation.

"CREDANT Technologies has been able to stay ahead of the competitive curve by being quick to identify, and respond to, the evolving market needs of the mobile enterprise," said Sally Hudson, Research Manager, IDC. "Their security strategy fills a void in the industry and clearly defines how they plan to protect the enterprise, protect wireless access, and protect mobile devices."

CREDANT Mobile Guardian 3.5 will be available in May 2004. Pricing starts at $36/user before volume discounts. For more information call 866-273-3268 or visit our web site at www.credant.com.
