BEA Introduces JRockit Support for Linux on 64-bit Intel(R) Xeon(TM) Processors

New SPECjbb2005 Benchmarks Show That JRockit Provides the Fastest Per-CPU Results of a Java Virtual Machine for Server Side Applications

SAN JOSE, Calif., Aug. 2 -- BEA Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:BEAS) today announced that its latest version of BEA JRockit(R) now includes 64-bit support for Linux running on 64-bit Intel(R) Xeon(TM) processors, reinforcing the company's commitment to server-side Java. The new software can give an immediate boost to those using applications that need a considerable dataset, including large XML files and in-memory caches. BEA also today announced SPECjbb2005 benchmark results, which show that JRockit has provided fastest per-CPU performance of a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) for Server Side Applications running on Intel hardware.

Using a Dell PowerEdge SC1425 with two 64-bit Intel Xeon 3.6GHz processors and 8192MB RAM, BEA JRockit 5.0 R25.2.0 was able to perform 24,208 operations per second under the new SPECjbb2005 benchmark test from Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation (SPEC).

SPECjbb2005 was developed by SPEC's Java subcommittee, and the benchmark's workload represents an order processing application for a wholesale supplier. Systems integrators and end users can use the benchmark to evaluate performance of hardware and software aspects of Java Virtual Machine servers. Hardware vendors can use SPECjbb2005 to analyze their platform's scalability when running Java applications. Software vendors can use it to evaluate the efficiency of their JVMs, just-in-time compilers (JITs), garbage collectors, thread implementations and operating systems.

BEA JRockit 5.0 has been specifically architected for use by large-scale, mission-critical, server-side applications running on high-performing Intel processor-based servers. The latest software release includes 64-bit support for the Intel Xeon processor. Featuring a range of state-of-the-art capabilities, JRockit 5.0 is designed to help customers deploy their applications quickly and efficiently so they can achieve optimal performance. Developers using JRockit 5.0 can aim for higher levels of productivity, manageability, performance and stability.

"Working with industry innovators such as BEA, we are continuously improving the performance of large-scale, enterprise-critical applications on Intel platforms," said Phil Brace, general manager of Server Platforms Marketing Group at Intel. "BEA has once again achieved industry leading performance with JRockit 5.0 on Intel Xeon processor-based servers."

"JRockit has proven to be the world's fastest Java Virtual Machine for server side applications running on Intel," said Guy Churchward, general manager, Java Runtime Products Group, BEA Systems. "We continue to set the bar for Java performance ahead of our competitors and deliver innovation that our customers have come to expect from BEA."
