Original Press Release:

DATAjogger Software Provides "Electronic Whiteboard" for Improvement Teams

DATAjogger, a new software program from PQ Systems, Inc., provides an "electronic whiteboard" for improvement projects on the shop floor or conference room. It is so easy to use that anyone can start creating diagrams, recording brainstorms, or charting process flow without any preparation-just as if these are being created on a whiteboard.

Projects often involve the application of several tools, from cause-and-effect diagram to histogram or bar chart. With DATAjogger, data can be entered once and then used in any of 13 different data analysis and problem solving tool formats with just a click of the mouse. The software documents every stage of the thinking. Teams can enter data and watch the chart update, with no set-up, no tedious drawing. "You don't need a graduate degree to use a whiteboard, after all," says software development manager Steve Daum. The charts are easy enough for a first grader to use but informative enough for the annual board meeting, he adds.

Ideal for using live with a PC projector, the software replaces the use of flip chart paper and endless transcribing of information from one form to another. A group can create a flow chart, for example, with lines drawn automatically, then share it with others as a visual aide, and focus on the process rather than concentrating on the technology itself. Using DATAjogger for brainstorming nominal group technique, and multi-voting builds consensus quickly and brings everyone along in the process. And if someone objects to magenta, the colors and styles can be immediately changed.

Project files can be stored on a network disk drive so that others may access them. Each project becomes a "document," similar to creating a document in Word, for example. Since every project is unique, there is no established set of tools that must be used-a team decides when and how often to use a given tool, clicking on its icon to create a visual record of the team's thinking.
