'EMS Campus' Academic Scheduling and Classroom Optimization Tool for Higher Education Hits the Market

New Product Provides 'Complete Campus Scheduling,' Encompassing Academic Scheduling, Meeting and Event Management, and Campus Calendaring

DENVER, Nov. 7 -- Dean Evans & Associates (www.dea.com) today announced the release of EMS Campus Version 1.0. The new product includes all of the functionality of their industry-leading EMS facility and resource scheduling products and EMS Master Calendar system, but also provides a powerful academic scheduling component to simplify collaboration between the registrar and academic departments. The academic scheduling module contains functions for pulling course schedule information from a Student Information System (SIS), editing records, creating and running multiple space optimization scenarios, automatically creating bookings for the courses within EMS and posting room assignments back to the SIS.

"We believe that EMS Campus is truly the first product to provide what we refer to as 'complete campus scheduling,'" says Kevin Raasch, executive vice president of Dean Evans & Associates. "There are many products on the market for meeting and event scheduling, several for academic scheduling, and a handful of campus calendaring options, but this is the first system specifically designed to manage all three of these unique but intertwined scheduling and calendaring disciplines."

Scheduling coordinators and registrars from dozens of colleges and universities provided input on how EMS Campus could best meet the needs of the higher education community. "Requirements gathering" took place over many months, with weekly conference calls between the company's development staff and contributors to fine tune the design.

"It's been interesting to learn more about how registrars and academic departments collaborate to produce the academic schedule, how that course schedule affects meeting and event space users, and how information on gatherings is shared online," says Ed Nowak, the company's director of product development. "The process is much more complicated than you might expect, and obviously mission-critical in a time of growing enrollment and shrinking budgets. Not only will EMS Campus' functionality provide significant savings in time and effort, the fact that entities all over campus can now 'speak the same scheduling language' will pay huge communication dividends."
