LODESTAR Unveils New Process Management Console

Fully integrated with LODESTAR(R) Customer Choice Suite(TM), new interface lets utilities easily manage business processes

PEABODY, Mass., April 9 -- LODESTAR Corporation, a leading developer of software for the energy industry, today unveiled its new Process Management Console, a business process management interface that is now part of the LODESTAR Energy Information Platform (EIP(TM)). The new console enables utilities to map all of their business process within LODESTAR CCS applications.

Historically, utilities that wanted to benefit from business process management (BPM) would have to choose from 3rd-party BPM vendors. However, this has proved a costly and unwieldy solution for utilities, which have to license the software, configure it, and then integrate the product with their back-end systems.

"The LODESTAR Process Management Console lets utilities focus on and manage individual business rules, or to correlate several business rules and treat them as a single workflow process within the Console," said Ken Hamilton, senior director of product management for LODESTAR. "LODESTAR's new Process Management Console gives our customers all the power of BPM, without the associated high cost and friction of integrating a third-party vendor."

Infinite Flexibility for BPM Rules

The LODESTAR Process Management Console comes pre-configured with workflow template that enables individual utilities to decide on the business rules, processes and workflows, enabling infinite BPM flexibility. The Process Management Console has no limiting set of predefined workflow templates; LODESTAR's Professional Services team instead configures the required business rules and pertinent workflows specific to the customer's unique requirements. The customer, any third party, or LODESTAR's Professional Services team can then easily modify the existing rules and workflows or add additional ones without having to upgrade the core software.

Features + Functions

The Process Management Console includes the following embedded functionality:

-- A powerful and user-friendly user interface that includes summary views, detailed views, and links to both inputs and outputs for a given process;
-- Runtime screens to monitor the status of executing, scheduled, and completed processes;
-- Manual or automated (scheduled or workflow triggered) execution of processes;
-- Performance monitoring that allows administrators to quickly assess which processes require the most time to run and if processes are currently taking longer to run compared to historical conditions;
-- Security functionality allows almost any level of security to be applied including data value level security to limit what a given user can see and do to records with a given data value;
-- Allows any number of processes to be defined;
-- Processes are effective dated, which allows a process to be called appropriately, for example, for a rerun situation for a period when the process was effective even though the process is not effective as of the current system date;
-- Underlying business rules are also effective dated, which allows the rules to change and the process definitions and relationships to optionally remain unchanged;
-- Allows any number of sets of processes or workflows to be defined, and any given process or group of processes can be associated or not associated to another process or group of processes;
-- Supports multiple types of workflow relationships across processes; and
-- Allows approval processes to be associated to one or more steps in a given process flow.
