Shavlik Technologies Announces Shavlik NetChk(TM) Security(TM): Providing a Defense Against Threats That Patching Won't Fix
ST. PAUL, Minn., Feb. 17 -- Shavlik Technologies, LLC, a leading provider of security software solutions, today announced Shavlik NetChk(TM) Security(TM), a security information and configuration management tool that identifies security configuration errors on Microsoft(R)-based workstations and enables system administrators to correct the errors.
"The two most common vulnerabilities exploited by hackers are configuration errors and software defects. Patch management tools such as Shavlik HFNetChkPro(TM) 5 can prevent attacks on software defects," said Mark Shavlik, president and CEO of Shavlik Technologies. Shavlik NetChk(TM) Security(TM) offers best practices that cover a wide range of systems including operating systems, Web servers and databases. Design flexibility allows these best practice configurations to be extended to other devices, such as firewalls, routers or switches. These security best practices support:
-- Security Setting Auditing -- Provides auditing to allow for the assessment of security configurations against best practices, and creates a scorecard that measures security compliance.
-- Regulatory Auditing -- Allows security audits performed around best practice standards such as ISO 17799 or CobiT. Using these as auditing standards, the program permits addressing information security compliance with regulations such as SOX, GLBA, HIPPA, California's SB 1386 or other security-related laws and regulations.
-- Understanding Why -- Provides rationale for security recommendations.
-- Enforcing Security -- Scan, audit and enforce security settings while reviewing the best practice content.
-- Setting Policy -- Links between the best practice content and its associated security settings will make enforcing your policies seamless.
-- Reporting -- Includes reports such as Executive Summaries, Machine Status and Detailed Scan Summary, each with relevant charts and graphs.
Shavlik NetChk(TM) Epicenter(TM) will be the GUI for Shavlik NetChk(TM) Security (TM). Also the GUI for Shavlik HFNetChkPro(TM) 5, the company's upcoming patch management tool offering significant features and enhancements from previous versions, Shavlik NetChk(TM) Epicenter(TM) will be the structure for additional Shavlik security management products to be announced during 2005.
