Everdream Proactively Protects Customers Against New Blackworm Email Virus

FREMONT, Calif., Feb. 1/ -- Everdream, the leading provider of on-demand desktop management services, today announced that it has developed mitigation packages to protect its customers against Blackworm, a potentially destructive e-mail worm capable of destroying important documents on an infected machine. The mitigation packages, part of Everdream's proactive approach to safeguarding corporate PCs and ensuring business uptime, are available now and include one to scan hard drives for the worm and remove it if it exists, and another that jumpstarts computers with virus definitions that are out of date, signaling them to immediately retrieve the latest antivirus software.

"We are security watchdogs for all of our customers and pride ourselves on taking proactive measures to safeguard their desktops before viruses ever have a chance to hit," said Peter Rive, Chief Technology Officer for Everdream. "This approach allows IT staff to sleep well knowing their network is well protected at all times, simultaneously freeing their resources to focus on more strategic initiatives that contribute directly to their bottom line."

Blackworm, also known as Blackmal, Nyxem.E, Win32/MyWife.E, CME-24, Tearec.A and KamaSutra, is capable of corrupting the files of commonly used business applications including: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat, among others. Blackworm spreads via e-mail attachments and insecure file shares. The worm is scheduled to activate on February 3, 2006, and the third day of every month thereafter, on computers that are infected with the virus.

While antivirus software provides the best defense against Blackworm, users who do not perform frequent virus definition updates run the risk of getting infected when the worm deploys. Everdream removes this risk for its customers through its proactive "uptime" suite of services. The company's mitigation packages created to thwart this specific threat are designed to:
-- Assist users that may have infected machines by packaging and deploying Symantec's Blackmal Removal Tool to inspect hard drives and remove the worm if discovered; and
-- Facilitate instant updated antivirus software on computers identified by the Everdream Control Center as out of date, provided they are connected to the Internet.
