Software performs vibro-acoustic simulation.

Press Release Summary:

Virtual acoustic prototyping solution includes RAYON low frequency vibro-acoustic software and AutoSEA for control of broadband airborne noise and sound-induced vibrations. The combination of the technologies provides Boundary and Finite Element Analysis (BEA/FEA) and Statistical Energy Analysis (SEA). RAYON uses BEA/FEA methods to predict vibro-acoustic response at low frequencies, while AutoSEA uses SEA method to predict vibro-acoustic response at higher frequencies.

ESI Group Unveils At MICAD the Most Comprehensive Vibro-Acoustic Simulation Solution

AutoSEA and RAYON Software Enable CAE Engineers to Tackle CriticalNoise and Vibration Issues Earlier in the Design Process

Micad 2003, Paris, April 1st, 2003 - ESI Group unveiled today at Micad the most comprehensive solution available on the market for vibro-acoustic simulation. ESI Group's virtual acoustic prototyping solution includes RAYON, a powerful low frequency vibro-acoustic software well suited for the prediction of trimmed vehicles' acoustic performances, and AutoSEA, the most effective software for the control of broadband airborne noise and sound-induced vibrations, such as acoustic noise from engine and tires of automotive and aerodynamic noise experienced by aircraft.

Noise and vibration are key attributes in the perceived quality of consumer and commercial products available on the market today. As such it is imperative that product design engineers take these distinctive features into account during the design stage of the products life cycle. What has always been difficult in the process for noise and vibration design is that no one technology covers the complete design frequency space. This difficulty was compounded by the fact that, until recently, no one company provided both of the complementary technologies, Boundary and Finite Element Analysis (BEA/FEA) and Statistical Energy Analysis (SEA).

With the acquisitions of Straco and Vibro-Acoustic Sciences, two specialized vibro-acoustics software providers, ESI Group is now exploiting the full benefit of the synergy between the two companies, as well as the latest developments in intermediary frequencies.

"Combining Straco and Vibro-Acoustic Sciences expertise and resources enables ESI Group to offer a global vibro-acoustic solution for noise simulation and acoustic comfort," said Paul Bremner, CEO of ESI North America and Vibro-Acoustics Software Branch Manager, ESI Group. "It also strengthens ESI Group presence in the automotive, defense and aeronautics sectors", said Mohamed Ali Hamdi, founder of Straco and Scientific Director of the Vibro-Acoustics Software Branch of ESI Group.

RAYON uses Boundary and Finite Element methods to predict the vibro-acoustic response at low frequencies. AutoSEA uses statistical energy analysis method to predict the vibro-acoustic response at higher frequencies. At low frequencies, the response is typically dominated by natural normal modes, and discrete deterministic methods such as Boundary and Finite Element methods are valuable vibro-acoustic analysis tools. At higher frequencies, more and more modes contribute to the response and the vibro-acoustic performance of a system becomes increasingly sensitive to small uncertainties in the properties of the system. Discrete deterministic are no more efficient and statistical methods such as SEA are more useful to provide an efficient statistical prediction of the vibro-acoustic response.

About ESI Group

ESI Group is a pioneer and world leading provider of digital simulation for prototyping and manufacturing processes that take into account the physics of materials. ESI Group has developed an entire suite of coherent, industry oriented applications to realistically simulate a product's behavior during testing, to fine tune the manufacturing processes in synergy with the desired product performance, and to evaluate the environment's impact on product usage. ESI Group's product portfolio, which has been industrially validated and combined in multi-trade value chains, represents a unique collaborative, virtual engineering solution, known as the Virtual Try-Out Space (VTOS), enabling a continuous improvement on the virtual prototype. By drastically reducing costs and development lead times, VTOS solutions offer major competitive advantages by progressively eliminating the need for physical prototypes. With revenues close to euros 43 million in fiscal year 2002, ESI Group (Nouveau Marché: Euronext Paris - Software - Euroclear 6584 - Bloomberg ESI FP - Reuters ESIG.LN) employs over 400 high-level specialists worldwide. The company and its global network of agents provide sales and technical support to customers in more than 30 countries. On the Net: ESI Group site: www.esi-group.com
