Overview

DB2® CommonStore for SAP is an e-business solution for both data archiving and document management that helps SAP users run their businesses more efficiently. For optimum online performance, SAP AG recommends regular archiving of old or infrequently accessed data from SAP systems. Document archiving improves processes and makes it easier to access original documents. With CommonStore, SAP customers can:

o Manage the growth of SAP application data and documents through regular archiving

o Extend SAP system server storage with back-end archive management storage with seamless integration

o Increase operational and administrational efficiency by shortening the backup/restore window

o Improve and control system performance by off-loading infrequently accessed content

o Increase end-user productivity with fast search and retrieval from the archive, even after years, simply from the SAPGUI interface

o Exploit the virtual storage management system, which permits changing storage media without disrupting end-client access

o Establish a scalable and secure back-end archive management repository that is virtually unlimited in growth

o Streamline the business processes by integrating digitized content in SAP applications

o Perform(TM) easier and faster SAP version-to-version upgrades

o Keep SAP data and documents based on regulatory and legal requirements

The CommonStore does not require the use of any database for its own use, but supports any SAP operational database (DB2 Universal Database®, (UDB) Informix(TM), Oracle, SQL Server, and so on). It leverages IBM's Enterprise Content Management technologies as the back-end archive management system, providing access to non-SAP objects that are stored in enterprise content repositories or providing access to SAP objects from non-SAP applications.

The CommonStore archive solution can easily be expanded into a corporate Enterprise Content Management system, including e-mail archive management for Lotus Domino and Microsoft Exchange Server systems.

DB2 CommonStore is certified by SAP AG as a complementary software product for all SAP-supported ArchiveLink levels. It supports all types of data and documents defined in the SAP ArchiveLink specification and follows the latest SAP ArchiveLink protocols.
